2012/10/23: Super Nintendo: Super Scope 6, T2: The Arcade Game

Yoshi's Safari is fun at first, but way too easy and repetitive.

Battleclash I really recommend, though - It's one of the best light gun games of its time. I remember X-Zone being fun as well, but I haven't played it in forever.

Some Famicom Games

[QUOTE=snakeboy]I happened to play a little bit of Life Force today and realized how similar it is to Gradius II. Stage 1 in Gradius II and stage 3 in Life Force especially have a lot in common, including the same firebird enemies and "solar flares". In fact, if you ask me, Gradius II co...

Life before the ESRB: Truly Hazardous Toys

Kids aren't allowed to have swiss army knives anymore?
Now I feel old. Everyone had one when I was a kid (and as the article states, they were somewhat of a rite of passage. We didn't use them all that much, it was just important to own one. Made you feel more adult).

2012/10/11: Commodore 64: 50 Mission Crush, Championship Baseball

Reading that review for 50 Mission Crush makes we want to see the C64 Critic review one of the big war strategy games of the day.

2012/8/2: Super Nintendo: Castlevania Dracula X, Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park Part 2: The Chaos Continues

I have Jurassic Park 2: The Chaos Continues for the Gameboy - it's completely different from the SNES game, and while it's somewhat generic, it's a pretty decent game. Give it a try if you just want an uncomplicated game where you shoot dinosaurs in the face.

Heavy Seas Beer

As a real pirate fan, surely you know that pirates drink rum, not beer.

2012/7/29: NES: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 3, Donkey Kong Jr.

[QUOTE=m0zart]
I don't consider the physics to radically alter the gameplay. I can see why you say that, but I don't get that experience from it. In any case, it doesn't "just have the visuals", it has the stages, built very similiarly and operating very simiilarly, and frankl...

2012/7/29: NES: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 3, Donkey Kong Jr.

No, the different physics radically alter how the levels play. The levels kind of look like their arcade counterparts, but they certainly don't play like them.
The 2600 version, on the other hand, lacks some minor element of the original (and two stages), but it's still unmistakably a pretty s...

2012/7/29: NES: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong 3, Donkey Kong Jr.

Calling the Gameboy Donkey Kong a "version of Donkey Kong" is like calling Super Mario Bros a "version of Mario Bros". The few levels in the Gameboy game that are based on levels from the arcade game play nothing like them, and the overall controls and gameplay is entirely different. They are entire...

2012/7/27: Atari 7800: Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Junior, Impossible Mission

[QUOTE=Allpaul]Great reviews! I'm pretty sure a hack exists of Impossible Mission that fixes the bug.. The original developer came in some time after, and was working on a fix with the original source code.. There's a pretty interesting thread about it on Atariage.. I'm sure a quick search would tur...
