What did you get for Christmas?

I got the following (game related):

Intellivision Flashback
Colecovision Flashback
SNK NeoGeo X

Also snagged a Wii lot with 30 games for my son (for a great price).

Site Enhancement Request

Hi Dave,

I see on your site in addition to alpha sorting on the console summary screen (where you list all the games reviewed), you can sort by grade. Can you also add a sort by year of release (perhaps allow sorting by any column)?

I was doing some research today and try...

2014/5/15: Game Boy: Bugs Bunny Crazy Castle 2, The, Donkey Kong, Game & Watch Gallery

The original Gameboy is a great example of a system which demonstrates improved games over time as developers became more adept at harnessing the power of the system

A good comparison is the first Super Mario Land which looks (and plays) more like the original Super Mario Bros and the lat...

Guide to Cleaning Video Games

To further what Wallyworld wrote, I used to be close to someone who worked in a used game resale store. His 'secret weapon' was a No. 2 pencil that he would use to rub the eraser against the contacts. It removes all grime/oxidation. If the cartridge was too small to get into, they would ...

Tiger Game.com Portable System review

The Tiger R Zone has more in common with the older Tiger Electronics handhelds than it does the Game.com. Stuart Ashens reviewed the R Zone a while back and it was not at all impressive. I guess it does have that in common with the Game.com :-)

Dave I am surprised that you did not...

2013/2/26: Atari 5200: Meteorites, Mountain King

And Asteroids for the 5200 was well beyond prototype phase. It was finished and ready to ship. It is even references in 5200 game brochures as a 'coming soon' title.

It's a shame the 5200 had such lousy controllers.

2013/2/21: Sega CD: Cliffhanger, Sherlock Holmes: Consulting Detective

I have Sherlock Holmes on the Sega CD. I played through it (and beat all three mysteries) when I first got my Sega CD back in 92. It was a bit on the dull side but no more so than other early CD-ROM PC games at the time.

I guess the grade is fair given the lack of replay value.

Another amazing idea......the random generator

I like the 'Game of the Day' idea assuming it is limited to games with high review scores (B+ or above?). Likewise as someone else suggested, there could be a turd of the week type game showcasing games with no redeeming qualities at all.

2012/10/7: Sega 32X: Mortal Kombat II, Night Trap (CD)

My favorite part of Night Trap is the multiple endings. Of course, you had to play the full game through each time to see the endings but they are amusing to see at least once.

Going from memory, the three endings are:
1. Complete a perfect game and you have the option of trapp...
