Re: Trivia: Sega Master System

Did you know there were I believe four versions of the Master System released in the US? Version 1: Model 1 with BIOS copyright date 1986 Upon startup with no game inserted, you are taken to an instruction screen for inserting a cartridge. Pressing up and both buttons on the controller brings you to...

Re: Atari Box update

But the games have to be actual games that are not available elsewhere. For example, I don't need this to play 2600 games when I can do that on a Flashback which is 1/5 the price. What would be cool would be a system that could play the entire Atari lineup (e.g. from the 2600 through the Jaguar) emu...

Re: Best Sega Genesis Soundtracks?

My favorites in no particular order are:

Streets of Rage
Streets of Rage 2
Revenge of Shinobi
(all of these were done by the same person I think)

Early EA games:
Road Rash
Lakers vs. Celtics
NHL Hockey
(later EA games moved away from the heavy guitar-laden music)

Moonwalker

Re: End of Xbox?

I am probably one of the few people who do not yet own an XBox One (or PS4 for that matter). My XBox 360 is still supported and I can find new games (I just purchased NBA 2K18). I am not really an avid enough gamer to really go for the latest and greatest. As a collector (and I do have an extensive ...

Re: 2017/9/1: NES: Goal!, World Cup Soccer, Totally Rad

It's almost an unfair comparison but if you are looking for 8-bit soccer action, you can't do much better than the Sega Master System port of FIFA. Plays basically like the Genesis version. The late (e.g. mid-90's) SMS releases in other countries; notably Brazil, are pretty good.

Re: Hyperkin Smartboy for Smartphones

Okay I own an N-Gage (two actually) and a number of games. The games look great in screenshots and videos but on the device itself, they play terribly. The issue is two-fold. First the phone is severely under-powered and running the (even then) sluggish Symbian 2 OS. Second, the controls on the phon...

Re: 2017/6/11: Sega Master System: Quartet, F-16 Fighting Falcon

As noted, F-16 is a SG-1000 game and will actually run on the real hardware. Why it was ever released for the Master System is a mystery but probably had something to do with being a cost-effective means of filling a genre.

Re: Retron 5 Death Grip?

There are two versions of the Retron5. The original gray/off-white version held the games tightly. The newer (black) model is significantly improved.

Re: Playing Game Gear on TV

I know a lot of people take issue with Hyperkin for the use of the emulation stack in the Retron5 but it really is a very good console. I personally love having one as it makes it significantly easier for quick plays for a number of my systems without having to hook the actual consoles up. The three...

Re: 2017/5/14: Sega 32X: Afterburner

While playing this in my gameroom, I looked over at my Master System games and realized I already owned Afterburner...I was kicking myself, until I looked up the Critic's review and saw he gave the Master System version an F. So at least I judged the game off the right version. An 'F' for the Maste...
