Re: Obscure Systems

I'll add one more - its also part of the Atari Video Pinball unit along with the pinball variants (some use flippers, some use a pong paddle) and the breakout/breakthrough, and that's BASKETBALL. What makes this different from a pong game (although its obviously is descended from it, is that you *b...

Re: Star wars the last jedi

I liked it. It was a different arc than what many were expecting, so there's a lot of negativity going around about it. Personally, I expected the negativity, as whining has become par for the course these days, and it cannot be avoided without just shutting everything down and sitting in a dark roo...

Re: Photos of old arcade games

My old basement arcade collection, circa 1999 (Circus, Anti-Aircraft, Breakout, Tank, Monaco GP): http://atari.vg-network.com/public/col1.jpg Here are a couple of pictures of the labs at General Computing, the company that created Ms. Pacman/Crazy Otto. The first is the Food Fight development hardwa...

Re: Just how bad are the Star Wars prequels?

I thought that they were just OK back when they came out in the theater. Nevertheless, I saw each one three times in their day. These days, I avoid the originals, as I've got the Q2 fan edits of each of them, and they're actually watchable. The edits cut out almost an hour of cringe-worthy dialog, s...

Re: Favorite Guitarists?

Jessie Pintado was a great guitarist. I think that he added the "grind" to Napalm's post-Lee/Bill sound. Mitch has picked up the reins since Jessie passed (especially starting with Smear Campaign), but who knows if even he'll return to the band in the future...

Re: 2017/3/29: Vectrex: Space Wars

Wasn't Computer Space based off Space War as well ? Yes. There are videos of gameplay on Youtube fortunately to see. Obviously its one player, the gameplay is different (twin enemy saucers) and I believe its discrete logic since there is not a microprocessor. I would love to see one in real life. A...

Re: A Video Game Older than Tennis for Two

That is pretty much bedrock in the history of our hobby. Its definitely a game, and using a CRT is video. Not sure if analog circuitry is enough. There are things like Nimatron from the 1939 Worlds Fair, but the video were light bulbs I think. You could argue thats just very low pixel count video. ...

Re: 2017/1/31: Sega Master System: Phantasy Star

It's funny - back in the day people working at EB Games or whatever would tell you that battery would last five years tops. But how would they know? They were just talking out of their ass. They said the same thing about floppy discs and those are still going strong. Now you hear similar stories ab...
