Re: Recommend some anime!

I guess I misunderstood. When I read "traditional hand-drawn animation" I was thinking classic animation cells. I was wondering how in the world that would be viable today. Companies like Filmation always found ways to do it cheaply, and I'm sure computers could help by producing the inter...

Re: Recommend some anime!

I did not know hand drawn animation cells were still viable in Japanese animation. That is interesting.

Re: Worst 50 Games of All Time!

Very fun list. Thanks for trudging thru the sludge for us. I was happy to see NES Dragons Lair on the list. Reader scores also give it an F. I know we couldn't expect a laser disc arcade game from the NES, and the idea to chase the arcade game in concept was fine, but the execution was horrid. Is Al...

Re: Recommend some anime!

Wow Sonic! Gold star for that list! If you had to pick, say 5 of those, which would you recommend? One old anime that 'people of a certain age' remember well include Starblazers (Battleship Yamato), the original Lion Voltron stuff, and of course Speed Racer. Lupin the Third was popular in the 80s am...

Re: Predictions about the Death of Consoles

I thought I read the Nintendo Switch has boosted console sales in Japan notably. The allure of playing on your 65" tv seems to quite strong. Thats something, large relatively inexpensive tvs, that may have changed the slide to computers. It may also be that the lifespan of these consoles seems ...

Re: Sega Dreamcast/Sega Naomi emulation incoming for the Nintendo Switch!

Digital Foundry isn't hacking their Switch, ripping games, and then tearing into the source code. There will be easier ways to make a likely determination. Strikers 1945 on the Switch for instance has, knowing that the system is only ever going to be used on 16:9 displays, decluttered the game scre...

Re: Procedurally generated pirate game

I like the idea. I grew up when thjs idea was used out of necessity, but it has real pros: replayability of course, also near infinite world space, but also easy to adjust difficulty and hard to memorize or predict anything.

Re: Obscure Systems

While browsing AtariAge, someone mentioned a system called the Unisonic. I didn't remember it, so I looked it up. Unisonic was the manufacturer; the system's name was the Champion 2711. It used the same processor as the Intellivision, but it had a different graphics chip. This site has a good overv...

I do enjoy light gun games, so kudos to Nintendo if the Switch can make an accurate and fun game in that style. I am not a fan of moving a cursor - now you're talking a trackball or mouse setup.

Re: Sega announces a new House of the Dead for the Arcades using Unreal Engine 4!

Oh wow I would be loving this, but as Zeta X mentioned, so sure if they could provide light-gun style controls. At this point though I'd think I'd settle for moving a cursor around the screen! I believe the more modern (i.e. Wii Motion Plus and later) gyro controls allow for lightgun type shooting ...
