Re: Computer Games 1998-2000

I would agree it feels like a Doom clone, but wouldn't want to start a clone war here. Later Jedi Knight games claw farther from Doom. I think by the next game in the series, Ke is force choking stormtroopers and just tossing them off high plac3s, which has a thrill all its own. It was a fun series....

Re: A biased articles on why people should get a PS4 and Pro over the Nintendo Switch!

Just a theory here that Nintendo is not about competing with Sony and MS, but about sharing in a healthy diverse marketplace I think its less about what happened in the past for Nintendo's consoles, and just about a conscious decision to not engage in an expensive technical race with giants like Son...

Was anyone a fan of the Kyle Katarn Jedi Knight / Dark Forces Star Wars games?

The one from this time period is Dark Forces II, where Kyle gets a lightsaber.

Re: Pac Man (Apple II)

Ya coulda had Pacman! The game was made for the base Apple II with enough RAM, so your Plus could have run it just fine if it had the RAM too. As for the white Pacman, I have a theory. Even though the Apple II had color graphics, many of us used a monochrome monitor. Those were either in green or am...

Re: Pac Man (Apple II)

Thanks for the reply. I am jealous of the arcade pacman. The Apple IIe was also one my computers in school. Among other things, I did a lot ASCII art on a green monochromatic screen. Its such a step up from the TRS 80, with its color graphics, but they cost more too. Pacman is impressive when you re...

Re: GameStop selling comics...

Gamestop has more than 7000 locations in the world. They can be a big liability in the age of Amazon, but people still go out and shop, especially to purchase groceries. New comics generally come out ever week, which means you could have a steady flow of regulars. Many comics shops carry similar mer...

I've been enjoying playing Pac Man across a few systems. This one is just on an Apple II emulator. Its quite a nice little home Pac Man game with the joystick.

Re: Licensing

With Blockbuster in the 90s, if you had content you needed to manufacture the DVD and put it at a Blockbuster. Netflix undercut Blockbuster with DVD by mail, and a huge selection and no late fees. Streaming has undercut that however - all sorts of content can skip the costs of making DVDs, and just ...

That's neat.

Its also a 'Could have been' with the RCA Studio II releasing years earlier (FRED: Flexible Recreational and Educational Device) in 1974, using audio cassette tape as a storage medium.

Re: is the raspberry pi console or pc good for retro games ?

In years past, the topic of emulation could spark some bad feeling about piracy, but I think its a fair question. Just the other day, a RetroPie article was posted on Ars Technica https://arstechnica.com/gaming/2018/06/one-upping-the-nes-classic-edition-with-the-raspberry-pi-3-and-retropie/ Emulatio...
