Re: Photos of old arcade games

https://retrobitch.wordpress.com/2017/12/12/original-80s-time-out-arcade-found-in-a-dead-mall-in-virginia/ In an odd bit of timing, workers rediscovered an old Time-Out arcade in the closed down Crossroads Mall in Roanoke, Virginia the other day. This blog has both pictures of what they found, and ...

Re: 2017 for Nintendo - Good, Great or just okay

Recall we had this thread earlier this year about 'Does Nintendo Hate Money' http://videogamecritic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5084&t=16189 While selling 10 million Switch units is wonderful, Nintendo still gets criticism for the many features the Switch is missing. People sometimes say that Nin...

2017 for Nintendo - Good, Great or just okay

I think we can say it's been At least an okay year for Nintendo. The Switch is at what, 10 million unit sold? Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey seemed to be highly praised. The mini classics talked about. Yet it's also like a winning hand in poker - the idea is not just to win a small pot, ...

Re: Rotting Awwwwwayyyy.....

http://videogamecritic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=5084&t=10849&hilit=bit+rot We have had discussions like this. I recall a difference of opinion, as some gamers point out their floppies are still going strong. I don't know about optical discs, but magnetic storage like tape and floppies wer...

Re: STAR WARS EPISODE VIII / Star Wars ranking

OzGamer - I'm with you bro! Plus episode one had the most bad-ass villain ever: Darth Maul. I wish he survived. When he first fell down the shaft I was like "he'll be back" and then I saw him split in two and I was like "nope - he's done" In the new Disney canon, Maul did surviv...

Re: 1982: A Christmas to Remember

Thanks for sharing. Absolutely terrific story. My best "video game" Christmas was when I got the C-64 disk drive (the year before I got the counsel) which of course increased my C-64 game library exponentially. The game I got on that Christmas was F-15 Strike Eagle and I played it for hou...

Re: First Generation Gaming

I've never played the original Odyssey but it looks like 99.9% of its appeal was the novelty of manipulating objects on a TV screen. The light gun/rifle looks pretty neat though. The gun games could be amusing for a bit. Many of the later Pong machines have 2 forms of shoot the dot lightgun games. ...

Re: STAR WARS EPISODE VIII / Star Wars ranking

I enjoy a nice Star Wars discussion, so thanks for not ripping into me for having what seems to be a minority opinion. On the Mary Sue discussion, an issue might be that TFA is a callback to both ANH and ESB. In particular, we get both the mentor deaths, but also the first battles of young hero and ...

Re: STAR WARS EPISODE VIII / Star Wars ranking

6) The Force Awakens - A plot that is so unoriginal its basically a reboot with a Mary Sue heroine and a silly Super Sized Death Star that can now kill from a huge distance! Although I respect your opinion, I think a lot of folks who referred to Rey as a “Mary Sue” will eat their words when we find...
