Re: 2017/10/28: Atari 2600: Guardian, Ikari Warriors

If so, it's a shame only Fatal Run uses the full 32k rom available to developers. The 2600's limited to 4K address space for the cartridge port. Games which use more than that are due to the use of bank switching hardware inside the cartridge, which is not limited to 32K. Stella's Stocking and Zipp...

Re: Bosconian clone comming to the Atari 2600!!!

It's called RPG, a test of a multi-color tile based display. You can wander around the world and collect coins, which are used to buy a shield and a sword from the store (you'll have to search to find enough coins to buy both). RPG has some interesting features, like the terrain you're on controls h...

Re: Bosconian clone comming to the Atari 2600!!!

It will be fun to see what a solid effort on the Atari 2600 can do. This is probably one of the better video captures, done using an RGB modded 2600 and a Framemeister. Be sure to specify a quality of 720p60 or 1080p60, else the flicker's pretty bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVyb-V0-B_c Appl...

Re: Bosconian clone comming to the Atari 2600!!!

This is a 2600 game in the same way that Virtua Racing is a Genesis game, maybe even less so. What we're doing in the homebrew community is just continuing the long tradition of putting extra hardware in the cartridge. It started off with extra ROM (the 2600's limited to 4K cartridges), figuring ou...

Re: Should original Xbox review be updated to reflect its poor reliability?

Wonder how much the problems with the "newer" systems are due to RoHS . I used to work in electronics manufacturing in the mid 90s to late 00s and becoming RoHS compliant was a major undertaking. Major issue with RoHS was the banning of lead in solder, the lead was added to prevent the gro...

Re: Can a game suck no matter how technically well-made it is?

E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (Atari 2600) ... The game was ruined by overly-complex controls, and poor screen layouts. :/ Main issue was the pixel perfect hardware collision detection of the 2600 made the wells the pits as they were so easy to fall into that it rapidly became annoying. Once I learned...

Re: Games you didn't think you'd like but did?

When I bought my PS2 I could only find it available as a bundle. I wasn't keen on the choices, but opted for the one with Star Wars: Starfighter and SSX solely because of Starfighter (I'm not much into sports games). After setting up my PS2 and playing a few rounds of Starfighter I figured what the ...

Re: Wizard of Wor question

That's neat. I missed out on this C64 voice peripheral totally. I do remember playing around with some voice software for the C64, something where you could type in a string and it would try to enunciate it. Most likely SAM . The hardware solutions where neat, but were quickly made obsolete once th...

Re: Wizard of Wor question

As a sidenote, this game is known in the VIC 20 community for being vaporware, even having a screenshot shown on the back of some boxes in the top row under Arcade Excitement. Yet it never came out. The VICs short life is probably one reason, but the VIC also has only one joystick port and no hardw...
