Re: Bosconian clone comming to the Atari 2600!!!

ZeroPage Homebrew played through all sectors of the A, B, Γ and Δ quadrants in Draconian. Took almost 3 1/2 hours.

Re: 21 Unexpected Games to Love for the Atari VCS (Book)

half true. True because trying to play a game with an emulated a paddle is an exercise in frustration. I've tried with a mouse, trackball, and analog joystick. Using a keyboard or digital joystick isn't even worth considering. False because you can use a real paddle with emulators. I own a Stelladap...

Re: 21 Unexpected Games to Love for the Atari VCS (Book)

You're welcome! I don't know when they began. On the 2600 menus are expensive to implement, there are not any built in resources (BIOS, character set, etc.) to take advantage of, so they weren't feasible until much later on. In Medieval Mayhem the menu (routines and graphic images) use 6K alone out ...

Re: 21 Unexpected Games to Love for the Atari VCS (Book)

do any homebrew 2600 games have 20, 50, or more variations? Look for homebrews that feature a menu. While I was writing Space Rocks somebody tried to get me to remove the menu, in order to make space for a feature they wanted me to add, and replace it with a Game Selection Matrix in the manual seen...

Re: MICROVISION (1979) - World’s First Handheld System - Review of System and All 12 Games

- Many of the Microvision games, like Connect Four (pictured below), use overlays on the cartridge to make up for the lack of graphical capabilities. hqdefault_2.jpg The overlays could differ, mine had the rounded holes for Connect Four. I recall playing the square hole version once and finding it ...

Re: Bosconian clone comming to the Atari 2600!!!

The speech from the arcade machine is difficult to understand as well. In Draconian's manual we list them as this: Your space fighter is equipped with an advanced on-board SMART ASSISTANT (or ‘SMARTASS’ for short) which will verbally inform you of combat conditions: ⋅ BLAST OFF!–- You’ve e...

Re: 2017/10/28: Atari 2600: Guardian, Ikari Warriors

If so, it's a shame only Fatal Run uses the full 32k rom available to developers. The 2600's limited to 4K address space for the cartridge port. Games which use more than that are due to the use of bank switching hardware inside the cartridge, which is not limited to 32K. Stella's Stocking and Zipp...

Re: Bosconian clone comming to the Atari 2600!!!

It's called RPG, a test of a multi-color tile based display. You can wander around the world and collect coins, which are used to buy a shield and a sword from the store (you'll have to search to find enough coins to buy both). RPG has some interesting features, like the terrain you're on controls h...

Re: Bosconian clone comming to the Atari 2600!!!

It will be fun to see what a solid effort on the Atari 2600 can do. This is probably one of the better video captures, done using an RGB modded 2600 and a Framemeister. Be sure to specify a quality of 720p60 or 1080p60, else the flicker's pretty bad. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVyb-V0-B_c Appl...
