Re: Computer Games 1998-2000

In terms of hardware, consoles historically matched or exceeded typical contemporary gaming PC's. Consoles may have historically rivaled computers in terms of graphics, but computers usually had the edge in terms of genres that are more CPU and memory intensive, and play better with a keyboard/mous...

Re: 2018/7/10: Playstation 4: Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap

It's interesting how the Wonder Boy series went in a more adventure-ish direction whereas the Adventure Island series is more about straightfoward platforming (the original AI is the NES port of Wonder Boy).

Re: Computer Games 1998-2000

First of all, better graphics doesn't necessarily mean better games. You seem to judge everything in terms of graphics quality. I guess I should throw away my NES and buy a PS4.

Also, the Dreamcast came out in 1999 and its graphics were much better than PSX and N64, and rivaled PC games.

Re: 2018/6/29: Genesis: Calibur 50, Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure

I had the Pitfall the Mayan Adventure for SNES back in the day, and I thought that it was boring even back then.

I imagine that the Genesis version is the same but with slightly less good graphics.

Re: The Horror Movie Lovers Thread

Saw "I Bury the Living" this weekend. Society : Most of the movie is a cartoonish, blackly-comic take on The Stepford Wives/Invasion of the Body Snatchers in a 80s high-school movie setting. It's not bad, but what makes the film remarkable is the final 20 minutes of twisted, highly-invent...

Re: Jelly Monsters (VIC-20)

And this is the real reason for the Great Video Game Crash of '84: Computers had finally become cheap enough for the average person to afford, & they could do as good a job (better!) than video game systems. Computers factored into it. The glut of bad console games was another reason. Still, no...

Re: Cloud Gaming will replace consoles?

Even if bandwidth isn't a problem, latency will always be (physics). When people press a button they expect an immediate response. Anything less makes for a very poor gameplay experience. Even modern displays always have _some_ latency compared with a CRT. It's why people struggle to beat Mike Tyso...

Re: Atari VCS is a scam!

To try and be balanced there is a lot of rumour swirling around. Some game commentators on YouTube are sometimes akin to gaming versions of SJW’s always looking for a crusade or something to get up in arms about. They are NOT a source of citation. Let’s wait and see is my humble opinion. Even Atari...

Re: 2018/5/20: Game Boy: Tetris, Centipede

I'm not as familiar with Game Boy Tetris.

But when I play the Nintendo NES version, I need to start at level 9. Starting at the slowest speed it's so slow that it's almost unplayable for me.

Re: 2018/5/2: Wii: The Monkey King

Let's hear your thoughts on my latest Wii review. This looks like a remake/update of Cloud Master for the Sega Master System. You might want to review that one as well. I've played the SMS game and it is challenging. There's a real "Gradius syndrome" where the situation is hopeless once y...
