Re: Super Mario 64 (Nintendo 64)

I feel like the odd one out here. I didn't discover how brilliant the game was until recent, because everything about Mario 64 instantly rubbed me the wrong way. Starting with "It's a me, Mario!" This was what going to curbstomp Sega, and kill off my beloved Saturn? I hated the bright prim...

Re: STAR WARS EPISODE VIII / Star Wars ranking

To be fair, I had to watch the movie twice before I caught that it demonstrated her knowledge of the Falcoln was entirely force based. I don't blame anyone for questioning whether she's a Mary Sue. I did. Same as I did for Anakin. That really wasn't the best way to handle the kid. But she's just a p...

Re: STAR WARS EPISODE VIII / Star Wars ranking

Rey is a Mary Sue? Rey? Snarls at Han for offering her a gun, beats the shit out of Finn before asking a single question, and runs in terror from her first Force Vision Rey? The Rey who nearly crashed the Falcoln until the force saved them? The Rey who beat an injured man in a lightsaber duel with t...

Re: Best and worst sports consoles

I can't believe that the 2600 sports library is getting more credit and attention than the Intellivision's. Also, right now, the PSP blows away every other portable gaming console out of the water when it comes to the sports titles. It's the most underrated system library ever made Finally: all cred...

Damn. Not sure how I missed the "original". Apologies for the brain fart.

Critic, if I donated the price of a few of the better downloadable portable games, so you lose nothing at all by owning them, any chance they would join your review queue?

Re: Wrestling Game Reviews by Rockofhysteria

May I suggest the Intellivision's wrestling game as one that might surprise you? Mattel Electronics were the sports kings of their day, and it's far more sophisticated than you might expect from the late 70's technology. Also, will you only be doing console reviews, or is everything fair game? I'd l...

Re: 2017/11/26: Playstation Vita: Dariusburst: Chronicle Saviors (Japan)

You might like Rogue Legacy. It's like a parody of Symphony of the Night. The difficulty is cranked up, and you play a family of demon slayers who meet their horrifying ends in a castle of chaos. But whatever you gain, carries over to your descendants - it's a power rush when everything finally clic...

Re: Retro Gamer Magazine

I'd really advise picking up all the back issues you can. Sure, it's mostly written from a British perspective, but think of the European scene as a mirror universe where Nintendo was clueless, arcade ports were hit or very miss, and literally anyone could code the next big hit from their bedroom. I...

Re: 2017/11/17: Sega CD: Revenge of the Ninja, Starblade

I never said I wanted to completely replace the libraries we received. There were many early 3d games that wouldn't work without textures to provide their character - Silent Hill would look ridiculous, if it were done like an early Alone in the Dark. Only that I just wish there were more retro games...

Re: 2017/11/17: Sega CD: Revenge of the Ninja, Starblade

You might get a kick out of this game, critic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iL9GyISJ2uU I wish there were more anarchistic oddities like Starblade. Console 3d was always one generation behind what they were trying to achieve. We could have had perfect wireframe driving simulations in 16 bit, and ...
