The Most Touching Moments in Video Game History? (SPOILERS)

Ken, you mentioned Actraiser. I was always heartbroken by the ending of that game, when (SPOILER) the townspeople decide they no longer need God in their lives, so he leaves them to fight for themselves. Nintendo's censorship made the point a little murky, but it was still an interesting...

2013/4/21: Genesis: Earthworm Jim, Earthworm Jim 2, Galahad

The best thing about Earthworm Jim's cow-launcher is that it's not just a throw-away gag. If you've finished the game, you know it comes back up in the ending. I won't spoil it by saying exactly how.

2013/4/10: Lynx: Rygar, Slime World, Todd's Adventures in, Switchblade II

Nice reviews. Rygar is one of only two Lynx games I ever enjoyed (the other being Klax).

2013/2/5: Atari 2600: Beany Bopper, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Mountain King

It's funny... Mountain King was one of my favorite games when I was a kid. I never once thought, "God, the controls suck on this game!" I just thought it was hard.

2013/1/3: NES: Tetris (Nintendo), Tetris (Tengen)

I agree with you. Despite the hype, I always thought the Nintendo version was better. Two-player mode is over-rated. Honestly, how often would you use it? Tetris is best played competing against yourself and your past scores.

How old is too old?

I'm 36 and have been playing video games as long as I remember. My wife also in the past has expressed the opinion that I'm too old, though I think she understands now. I don't understand that attitude at all. How is playing video games any less "mature" than other "adult" hobbies ...

No more game stores?

I dunno, I live in Columbus and every mall and shopping center I can think of has a game store in it. We also have many local used stores. The one I go to has everything from 2600 games to brand-new stuff.

Now, I'm old enough to remember when every mall had an arcade... THAT'S...

Nintendo Power - RIP

I subscribed to NP from the first issue through about 1995. Like some others said, I was greatly excited about its arrival (and EGM, which I also got). On Saturday I would literally sit at the window and watch for the mailman to come.

I remember one CES report when I was in ei...

2012/8/25: Atari 2600: Frogger, Frogger II, Frogger, The Official

My brothers and I used to play our own version of "speedy Frogger." We'd pick a spot and just hold up on the joystick, and see if we could make it all the way across without stopping or moving left or right. It took some strategy.

2012/8/10: Atari 2600: Breakanoid, Epic Adventure, Track and Field

Was that Track and Field controller really rare? A buddy of mine had it in elementary school.

Track and Field has always been one of my favorite arcade games. My local pool had it in its small arcade, and the competition was pretty fierce. People knew I was good a...
