Re: Super Mario Odyssey.

I was referring more to the design of the console itself than all the other issues and the fact it now looks like some awkward transition from the Wii to the Switch.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey.

The Switch is going to do a lot better than the Wii U. I always liked the Wii U despite its problems, but the Switch is so elegantly designed it makes Wii U look like a necessary mistake. And they're bringing out the software to back it up.

Re: Why wasn't Mario 64 a pack-in game?

Just found an old listserve thingy from early in Sept '96; Mario 64 was 59.99 at ToysRUs. https://groups.google.com/forum/m/#!topic/rec.games.video.nintendo/o8SHY9FIExE In Nintendo's defense, they lowered the price of the console from $250 to $200 at the last minute - as recently as a few months bef...

Re: Super Mario Sunshine (Gamecube)

Mario Sunshine is better and worse than Mario 64: The pitfall deaths and 100-coin missions are excruciating (I don't remember the level names but the one with the beach and the mini-level where you ride a sandbird was insufferable for getting 100 coins). But it also has the platform mini-stages with...

Re: Why wasn't Mario 64 a pack-in game?

I have the feeling Nintendo just didn't want the console to be more expensive than the Saturn and PS1. Either that or they wanted to spare themselves the embarrassment of months of people buying only a Mario-bundled N64 and no additional games. Okay, that's a bit of snark. If anything they probably ...

Re: Top 10 Favorite Genesis Games

It would be more interesting to see a top 10 list of third party Genesis games, since most of the greatest ones are by Sega (All but one of the OP's top ten).

Re: Star Fox 2 (SNES)

All the SNES flash carts I'm aware of will not play Super FX games as they have limited support for the numerous expansion chips found in SNES games. SNES Powerpak (retrousb) - Supports DSP1 which includes Mario Kart and Pilotwings. Product page says games that use other expansion chips will never b...

Re: Did anyone else play the Splatoon demo sessions?

Mostly, I'm glad to see Nintendo making their own kind of game for an established genre. It's like paintball on crack. I had fun trying to cover the arena in ink, though it was kind of a drag to get that mission six battles in a row. My team only won a few times and it was all cover the arena missio...

Re: You get 3 games (can choose from Mario, Zelda, or Metroid)....Go!

Super Mario Bros. 3 - It's really hard to pick between this and SMW but 3 just takes the nod because you can at least do a Frog Suit or Hammer Bros. Suit run (On All-Stars), while SMW only has two power-ups besides the mushroom and relies on Yoshi to make up the difference. Mario 64 would be a close...

Re: "It's terrible but I like it anyway" games

My picks are all Simpsons games. Bart vs. the Space Mutants (NES) - I enjoy the game as a puzzle platformer and the levels are packed full of strange mini-events, like the bouncing magician's assistant or the Ferris wheel at Krusty Land. Plus the mini-games are a nice touch. Of course people hate th...
