Re: 2017/9/1: NES: Goal!, World Cup Soccer, Totally Rad

I remember renting Totally Rad and being blown away by the multi-layered parallax scrolling in the first stage. It didn't take much to impress me back then.

Re: Wii games to play with your wife

Mario Galaxy 2. You can play normally and she can use the Wii remote to pick up stardust, grab items for you, freeze or kill enemies, etc. It's the only game my wife's ever requested that I play. And tbh, I'm not sure I ever would've finished the Grandmaster Galaxy Perfect Run without her freezing t...

It's funny you say the AI is good because it bets heavily on bad hands and vice versa. This is EXACTLY how a novice player behaves, according to Matt Damon's pro poker player in "Rounders."

Re: Old game magazines

EGM's reviews were a lot more respectable than GamePro's. EGM very rarely gave 10s. I remember when Super Monaco GP for Genesis got two 10s and it blew my mind. The tips were my favorite part of those old magazines -- the secrets, maps, codes, etc. Not needed today, of course, but the only way to ge...

Re: Old games at the arcade

My local D&Bs (two of them) have purged all their older games over the past few years. They have the Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga and Donkey Kong/DK Jr. multicabs, but that's it.

Fortunately there are like six retro barcades that have opened in the last five years to fill the gap.

Re: Deserving arcade games yet to be released on a compilation or digitally

I used to love an arcade game called Escape from the Planet of the Robot Monsters. Not sure if it's ever been released in a home version, but I've never seen it.

What about Sega's excellent racer Rad Mobile? I think it had the very first appearance of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Entertaining reviews as always, although I do find it a bit frustrating when you criticise a game for being stupidly hard when you actually just haven't discovered a simple way of completing the part you're criticising. I think the same thing when I read VGC's review of "Revenge of Shinobi.&qu...

Re: Biggest Video Game Accomplishment

I have done an 18-minute speed run of Ninja Gaiden. I've also finished that game without losing a life. Sadly, not at the same time. I got 100% on Super Mario 3D World, which means beating the brutal final bonus stage. I once finished Cobra Triangle without using a continue. I think just finishing g...

Re: 2016/1/23: Wii U: Yoshi's Wooly World

I'm not sure what's confusing about the health system. It's a simple ring of hearts that encircles your character. You can collect hearts from the "?" clouds or by passing a checkpoint. If you lose them all, you die. The hearts also serve as a collectible, just like they did in the SNES ga...

Re: Longest game you've ever played?

It took me almost 80 hours to 100% Super Mario 3D World. I'm guessing at least 20 hours of that was finishing the final level with all five characters. That was rough.
