Re: 2017/10/19: Game Boy Color: The Simpsons: Night of the Living Treehouse of Horror

Ah, good to see that one of mine made the cut. I had never actually played this game... just stumbled across it while searching for Halloween games, and it sounded interesting enough to suggest for you. Surprisingly Gamespot gave this a 7.8 back when it came out in 2001, so that gave me hope that it...

Re: SNES Waterworld Soundtrack

I would bet money that it actually works 120% fine, speed-wise. Either that, or it only ever worked 83.333% fine originally. (I'd compare the European and Japanese releases in an emulator to determine this conclusively, but sheesh, even I have better things to do.) And it's not the game that works ...

Re: SNES Waterworld Soundtrack

There are adapters, but while they get around the region lock, I'm pretty sure you'll have to mod your SNES to run at 50 Hz (PAL frequency) to get the game - and its music - to run at the right speed. And at 50 Hz, the SNES won't work with an American CRT, although flatscreens shouldn't have any is...

Re: Digitpress.com Gone.

This is too bad. Along with VGC, Digital Press was one of the first sites I used when I started out collecting. The site was a great resource back then, especially the famous DP Rarity Guide. The guide is very outdated now, and PriceCharting.com has made price guides obsolete anyway. Still, I have t...

Re: The value of downloadable games? (Part 2), and how it'll kill the hobby.

Is there any basis to my theory that one day consoles will be bought and sold like games...with values based almost entirely on which digital games are stored on their hard drive? Or is there some way around that? (i.e., like a "multicart" disk that has all the digital games on it). I don'...

Re: The value of downloadable games? (Part 2), and how it'll kill the hobby.

As for game collecting winding down, I think you can make an argument that physical games are about to get a heck of a lot more valuable, considering their are a highly desirable and finite resource. True, I could see values going up. But think about the impact of digital games on the culture of co...

Do low SNES Classic prices on ebay mean more supply or less demand?

When I first heard about the SNES Classic, I figured it would be a much bigger hit than the NES Classic. In the retro gaming market, the SNES is the hottest console right now IMO, though I feel us approaching N64/PS1 territory very soon. But for now, the SNES is at that nostalgic sweetspot that I of...

The value of downloadable games? (Part 2), and how it'll kill the hobby.

A bit over 5 years ago I posted a topic in the forums here that was theoretical back then, but is now much closer to becoming a reality, about the future value of downloadable games (Wiiware, Xbox Live, and PSN). With the recent news that the Wiiware service is shutting down, and Astrodomekid's good...

Re: 2017/9/26: Nintendo 64: Paperboy

Yeah as others mentioned, this is one of the few D reviews that makes me actually want to play the game. I've enjoyed Paperboy since playing it on the NES as a kid -- especially since being a real paper boy seemed like a glamourous job at that age! So the open world, aiming ability, and lightened di...

Re: Halloween Games?

How about the new Friday the 13th game for PS4/XB1? It was released for digital download earlier this year, but the physical release comes out October 13. It didn't get great reviews, but the concept sounds cool. The downside for you VGC is that it relies heavily on online play, so that might be a d...
