Re: Kiosks

A thread at AtariAge suggests the Bar Top 5200 was designed for Latin American markets, where similar 5200-based-arcade machines were already popular, but I can't find evidence of that just skimming Atari's memos. http://atariage.com/forums/topic/64502-atari-5200-arcade-coin-op/?hl=%2Bbartop#entry12...

Re: Kiosks

Related: Atari considered turning the 5200 into an arcade machine. Here's the proof: http://www.atarimuseum.com/ahs_archives/archives/pdf/videogames/5200/5200bartop.pdf They did make a game for it, Barroom Baseball, but I don't know if any actual consoles survive. Here's info on Barroom Baseball: ht...

Re: Kiosks

Arghh! All that game playing! What agonizing, back-breaking work. Nah, just kidding! When I would take a break, I used to call up my friends and say: "Hey, you'll never believe what I have to do to make money these days. I play video games all day, and I write about them." Then I'd laugh ...

Re: Changing too much or too little?

Media franchises are nothing new. There was an 28 film series based on the Blondie comic strip in the 30's, 40's, and 50's. Universal had their series of monster movies, and other studios would make franchises of actors; Abbot and Costello, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, etc. Going back a bit furth...

Re: Digital Lifespan

Atari Corp was fairly successful after the crash, till the computer market turned to PC clones in the early 90's. And I do believe Atari Games inc was fairly successful in the arcade scene, till that market changed. I'm trying to sort out all the problems which caused the original Atari inc's collap...

Re: Changing too much or too little?

"So, what kind of things would YOU put into a Call of Duty game to differentiate it from previous Call of Duty games while still keeping true to the Call of Duty name? " Assuming the definition Stalvern pointed me to correctly describes the series, I'd try to make the story line branch. Fa...

Re: Changing too much or too little?

Looked up Spunkgargleweewee. Spunkgargleweewee (SGWW) is a sub-genre of first-person-shooter games. These games are very linear and focused on telling a story or showing spectacular (cut-) scenes, rather than gameplay (Emphasis added) or challenging the player. Hence, they often have regenerating he...

Re: Digital Lifespan

What book? What did it say caused Atari's downfall?

I've always heard Atari failed due to a glut of bad games, often simplified to ET, but that over simplifies things. There were so many problems happening at the same time I have trouble pinning the exact cause down.

Re: Bad news for Switch players.

Would you be willing to review CyberMorph, GameOfThrones? I've always thought it looked interesting, but I've heard little good about it; I'd like to hear from someone who enjoyed the game.
