Playstation 4 Announcements

The big sony event did leave alot to be desired. The architecture is AMD, a supercharged PC. Would that not imply no backwards compatibility, or at best software emulation? Also no clear answer on the issue of used games.

2013/2/13: Commodore 64: Computer Ambush, Jumpman, Jumpman Junior

Thanks for the C64 review of computer ambush...got C64 critic to join in. These heavily detailed turn based strategy games ate up lots of my time back in my mispent youth (dungeons and dragons, star fleet battles, etc). Computers could take alot of the drudgery out, but the rules were going to be co...

2010/5/11: Odyssey 2: Baseball, Blockout!/Breakdown!, Pick Axe Pete

Thanks for the review spotlight on the Odyssey 2 Blockout/Breakdown. I had (and still have) an Odyssey 2 back in the day, after having some dedicated pong machines. On those joysticks, we were pretty rough on and they did okay. I do remember adding in tinfoil under the r...

Mobile site feedback

I check the site from a mobile droid phone on the go or from work where internet access is limited. One issue that comes to mind is accessing links from the main page. For instance the drop down menu under 'home' appears, but it is difficult to get the links to operate. The...

Next Gen: No backward compatibility??

How much of the domination of the PS2 was due to being PS1 compatible? And that was hardware compatibility not emulation, was it not?

Thoughts on console design

Cosmetic design is important. All that woodgrain on the pong and early 2600s, then the darth vader redesign. Nintendo intentionally wanted the famicom to look like a family friendly toy in the east, but the NES to look like a VCR media device in the West. The turbografx still looks sleek and cool. I...

Next Gen: No backward compatibility??

Sometimes it is the real hardware. Didn't the PS3 originally have the PS2 emoticon chip? Sony dropped it as consumers expect console prices to decrease and the initial price points may not even have hah a high margin. The Sega Genesis had the Master System Z80 as a coprocessor, and only required a p...

New Banner from the 1970s!

While the green on black (and Amber on black) was common for 1970s, being in that distinct column format definately evokes The Matrix. If it were lines of BASIC or FORTRAN code, or ASCII art of the Pink Panther or something, then I think late 70s. Most of your ban...

New Banner from the 1970s!

The matrix banner is wonderful, but its an anachronism for the theme. How about something else, like lava lamp bubbles or if you want to stay video-ish, how about the green of a circuit board.

I have a wonderful APF TV Fun pong-machine that I bought solely as I loved the woodgrain. ...

Atari files for Bankrupcy

I recently got the Atari Flashback 4 Deluxe (yes, the specially made Space Invaders is pretty neat), but what does this bankruptcy bode for these units? Is this the last of the Flashbacks? While Atari has been just about the 2600 days for a long time, that is still something special ...a...
