Instant Fun

The biggest problem nowadays is that mobile and tablet is now the platform of choice for instant "fun" games, and those games are mostly free or freemium. Even some Dreamcast titles, such as Crazy Taxi, are showing up on the iPad, finicky virtual controls and all, for a mere 5 USD.

...

Instant Fun

Sega, with their arcade-centric history, was the standard-bearer of instant fun when they were making their own consoles, and they spewed out innovative (though not necessarily high-quality) arcade-style titles as quickly as they could.

Nintendo was and is much more meticulous with...

Hardcore vs Casual labels

Those who still spend at least $300 each on a CPU and videocard in order to run Star Citizen at 60 fps at 1440p yet will still enjoy a long session of Crusader Kings II on a laptop are hardcore gamers. Everyone else is a casual gamer.

2014/7/29: Super Nintendo: Aladdin, Dirt Trax FX, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers

Capcom was once the go-to publisher/developer for Disney videogame IPs up until Aladdin. If not because of the difference in sales numbers or profitability between Capcom's Aladdin and Virgin's Aladdin, I wonder what else would have caused that relationship to go south.

Feminist Frequency

The irony is that sexism is much more prominent in the game development industry than in the games themselves that those in the industry produce. Just look up the Twitter hashtag #1ReasonWhy. Unfortunately, it's typically legitimate movements like this that end up spawning "professional ...

Most Reliable/Durable NTSC Dreamcast Revision?

I just re-acquired a Dreamcast after 13 years, and I've read about the lens laser issues and the recommendation of having backup DCs. The DC I just picked up is a Revision 1, and I've had no hardware issues so far.

I've read on a GameFAQs thread that one should avoid get...

Most Unreliable Console?

In my personal experience, the original Xbox 360 design (white and the black Elite) was the least reliable console. My Elite went RROD in less than a year. My 30+ year old ColecoVision and 26 year old NES are still going strong.

NBA Jam which Sega 16 version ?

The big heads is a feature of the original arcade versions, so you're technically getting the most arcade-faithful port in the 32X version.

2014/7/8: Genesis: Aladdin, Forgotten Worlds, Galaxy Force II

The A- for Aladdin is because it's not as good as Aladdin on the SNES, which received an A. That's just my opinion, though. I personally had more fun playing the SNES version despite not having the original Disney artists providing the arts assets for the game like the Genesis version did.
