Re: city building games history

I remember "Raid on Bungeling Bay" well, and its neat to think that the little game of flying your helicopter around islands led to SimCity.

I wonder if Minecraft today fills about the same niche.

Re: Magnavox CD-i

I believe Philips bought the Magnavox consumer electronics division in the mid 1970s. The original Odyssey was all Magnavox. Most or all of the pong Odyssey machines, like the Odyssey 100, were probably made after the acquisition by Philips. By the Odyssey 2 it was clearly a Philips product. In Euro...

Re: 2016/1/19: Bally Astrocade: Checkmate, Incredible Wizard, The

I really enjoy the Wizard of Wor arcade machine. A simple idea just wonderfully well done. I think the futuristic part reminds me of Thundarr, the Barabrian. Lasers and wizards, put'em together it just makes sense. Its great that the game has a fine port on the Astrocade. According to Marriot_guy th...

Re: New System: Sega SG-1000

As a complete curiosity, I noticed my 3DS can have a Sega SG-1000 Mk III theme. Its downloadable from the e-shop, for $2. You can also get other Sega themes, including the Game Gear, I believe. It make take you a moment to get beyond the absurdity of having a Sega theme on your Nintendo handheld tho...

Re: Your Top 5 Pong Games

Here is a neat article from about 1975, Creative Computing Magazine, by David Ahl. Creative Computing was a very early book covering the emerging 8 bit computers. You might know him as the author of that big yellow book, BASIC Computer Games. So, if you take your Pong neat, here is Playing Pong to W...

Re: Box art?

As its a New Year, thought I would toss out an Old Idea. Not sure if this would just visually clutter up things, or make the mobile site slower, or just be a ton of work without much reward, but box art can amazingly fun. Box art today seems to be going for evocative stylings instead of screen shots...

Re: New System: Sega SG-1000

Can you please adjust the reference to my website (http://www.videogamecopnsolelibrary.com) What an awesome site. Looking at the Colecovision, SG-1000 MK1 and MK3/SMS specs, they all are Z80 family chips running at the same speed. The MK3/SMS definately has a lot more RAM, but oddly, it went from 3...

Re: Worst Nintendo holiday lineup and pricing ever?

Other way round I think, Gamestop bought Thinkgeek. I like Thinkgeek online, but I don't need Gamestop being a toystore. I need Gamestop on Friday nights when I want a new game, not a Walking Dead vinyl doll or something. However, it may just show how worried Gamestop is about going out like Blockbu...

Gameboy World 1989 (2015 book)

Picked this up as a bundle with other video game related books. The author, Jeremy Parish, started out to chronologically review the GameBoy library in 2014. Each game gets several pages devoted to it, and along with it comes it history coming to the system. So far, its been an amusing read, having ...

Shannara Chronicles

Anyone trying this fantasy series out? First time I have watched Mtv in...well, a long time. I have watched the pilot, and its quite attractive. The cast are pulled from the land of beautiful people, and the scenery is gorgeous. The plot is from the second book, the Elfstones, which I think was late...
