Re: When did having more than one system become common?

Having two consoles of the same generation seems recent. Otherwise, the Dreamcast may have made a great second console. Perhaps it was last gen and the Wii phenomenon. Oddly, there seems less of a reason now with so many multiplats and so few WiiU killer apps.

Re: Strange opinion: I think Smartphones are a bad invention.

I don't believe manners have gone by the wayside, Manners are all about how others see your behavior. This is one time when your own self assessment is not enough. If someone diapproves of something you are doing, you have bad manners in that situation. Its not about if that same action by someone ...

Re: Why did the NES do so well in the US

Home computers were incredibly niche. They were expensive, so largely only the middle class could afford them. There wasn't "poor adoption" of 8-bit computers, they were never intended to be mass market. If we want to restart this conversation, let's put this misconception to bed. Home co...

Re: Strange opinion: I think Smartphones are a bad invention.

Just because you don't remember a world before them doesn't mean it didn't exist. It was a place gloriously free of chirps and bloops and rings and little water drop noises coming from everyone's pockets every 5 seconds. The tech isn't the problem, the way (far too many) people use it is. Millenial...

Re: Music Biz - Streaming, Piracy, itunes

In an interview that the AVClub did with Rob Zombie a couple of years ago about Zombie's love of silent movies, Zombie talked about how different it was watching TV as a kid in the 70s when there were very few choices and how that ended up being a blessing in disguise; since he couldn't instantly t...

...Columbia House - 12 cassettes for a penny!...I also torrented a lot of music starting in about 2003 and continuing up until around 2012 or so; I probably have somewhere around 500 gigs of downloaded music, plus all the CDs... ...Youtube to hear new music; Spotify and Pandora aren't really option...

Re: Bug Movies

The library at my grade school had a picture book based on Tarantula. I've always heard that film being favorably compared to Them! Of course there's David Cronenberg's remake of The Fly, where Jeff Goldblum's slow transformation into a monster is used as a depressing meditation on aging and sickne...

Re: Bug Movies

I quite enjoy killer insect films like Skeeter, Mosquito, Deadly Swarm, Killer Buzz, The Hive, Black Swarm, Locusts: The 8th Plague, Caved In: Prehistoric Terror, Slugs, Deadly Scavengers, Deadly Stingers, Scorpius Gigantus, They Crawl and dozens of others. I am not familiar with most of these. Are...

Parenting and Gaming

Saw an article on parenting and gaming. We are the first generation of parents who grew up playing video games, which makes us the first moms and dads to possess the wisdom to guide our children through the world of PlayStation, Steam, Nintendo, and the like rather than the desire to merely abandon ...
