Re: The Horror Movie Lovers Thread

1) Babadook- This movie was so great for me because of how deftly it resisted concluding whether or not the Babadook was actually real or just a symptom of the protagonist's creeping paranoia and insomnia. 2) It Follows- see the dedicated thread :P 3) Prometheus- Not as good as Alien but certainly b...

Re: It Follows (2015 film)

Thanks for posting your thoughts, Rev! I'm glad this movie is getting the attention it deserves. I haven't been this excited about a Blu Ray release in a long time--I'm literally counting the days. The thesis statement of It Follows, that asking more questions than offering answers, is brilliantly v...

Re: Yooka-Laylee - A 3D Platformer Rare-vival!

I like the idea of kickstarters a lot, but the main problem I have with them is that if it is a game, they never seem to release a physical copy of the game. Now we are at a place where games that were once available for download are no longer available in any form. I hate the idea that if I downlo...

It Follows (2015 film)

Have any of you horror buffs seen this one? It's an aesthetic and mechanical masterpiece in my opinion if not groundbreakingly original. I'm totally drunk on the soundtrack, cinematography, and set design, but slightly underwhelmed by the script. In a time when so few good horror movies are released...

Re: Why did the NES do so well in the US

NES was $200 at launch, just like 2600 and every Nintendo console until Wii. That might be a key factor. As for computers, then as now, there were too many variables. A console, you buy and any game made for it just works. No quality control barrier to the platform. No supporting marketing juggerna...

Re: Why did the NES do so well in the US

And what poor people could afford either Atari or Nintendo ROM cartridges in the 80s? How many poor people bought several hundred dollar consoles? Only the middle class could afford any of these products. After the hardware purchase, the games on computers are more economical than cartridge console...

Re: PSN Gold Week sale on "Japanese influenced" games

nesfan (where have you been these days btw?) I'm still around. I've just got a nonchalant "I'll do it eventually" attitude about most things. I guess that includes posting on forums. As for the PSN sale, I've got a couple of reasons why I won't be taking advantage of it. The main reason i...

Re: Lessons of 8th Generation console launches

Very on point, Atarifever. Xbox is still handily winning the exclusives competition. Looking at games individually, Bloodborne is the best 8th-gen exclusive so far but one good game does not a justifiable console purchase make. I should also note that at times, Sony's fixation on resolution leads to...

Re: Minecraft for PS3

Another great review! I've never gotten past the tutorial in Minecraft because I just felt it wasn't for me, but now I'm not so sure that's true. Some of what you said reminds me a lot of Monster Hunter, another game that burdens the player with assigning meaning and narrative to their experiences. ...
