Re: Favorite YouTube Gamers?

A couple of good ones which haven't (yet) got a massive subscription base. Chinnyvision - covers a lot of retro systems but he mainly compares games across the 8-bit home computers. If any of you are interested in Euro retro gaming it's well worth checking out. Implant Games - Short 3-4 minute revie...

Re: Bring Back High Score Challenge?

Yeah I didn't consider the save state and speed manipulation variables. Fair points.

Re: Gulf Between Arcades and Consoles

But that had always been the case ? Arcade technology would always have a gulf as the hardware side would be tailored to the game in question and constantly evolving wheras consoles usually have a 5 year timespan and thus usually older technology. I don't think the systems your referring to fared an...

Re: Atari Anthology (PS2)

I didn't think Night Driver was anywhere close to playable with the analog stick of the Xbox controller I was looking forward to Night Driver as well, shame I will see how I get on with it when I eventually get round to it. I don't like Video Pinball much, in fact it irritates me immensely. However...

Re: Mario Kart DLC Pack 2 details

Sounds like Nintendo haven't got any new IP's or anything of interest apart from Zelda coming up. So they are going to flog (ie keep alive/relevant) their older games to tide customers over until their new system is ready. But are gamers seriously going to play DLC for another year or two and not mo...

Re: Why did the NES do so well in the US

I would actually opine that the pre-crash home computers were actually participants in the crash, in that like with the face of video games Atari, there was no effective way to police fly-by-night publishers and devs from releasing sub-shovelware quality games to cash in on the video game fad. And ...

Re: Lessons of 8th Generation console launches

Sony has way more bullets left in the chamber, and just haven't had to fire any of them yet. They are winning, handily, for doing NOTHING. Imagine when they want to start firing. Microsoft is making all the right moves since they put Phil Spencer in charge. Unfortunately, it is going to be a long r...

Re: What ever happened to arcade games?

When Sega died (yeah ok it's still around but it's more of a publisher nowadays) arcade style games died.
Unless of course you wish to enter the world of downloadable games as there seems to be more arcade style games there.

Re: Service Games: The Rise and Fall of Sega (book)

After reading Console Wars I've moved on to this book. Scotland you are absolutely spot on when citing inaccuracies. I'm not far into the book but already regarding the SG-1000 it calls it a 4-bit machine (it's 8-bit) and the SG-1000 II was meant as an home computer with it's optional keyboard and t...
