Re: Games you like that everyone else hates?

Hey guys, what's up, it's been a while! Sword of Sodan! Same here! I said so in the other thread, but despite its poor reputation, I actually enjoyed that game quite a bit. It's basically a side-scrolling mech game masquerading as a gory medieval painting. Another game on the Genesis that most peop...

Re: 2017/3/12: Super Nintendo: Hit the Ice, ESPN National Hockey Night

The Hit the Ice trilogy is complete! It's hard to imagine how anyone could think it was OK to release a game with that much sprite breakup and such janky animation, especially when compared to the other ports. It's playable -- I was able to beat the SNES version on the game's equivalent of...

Re: 2017/3/10: Genesis: Twin Cobra, Hit The Ice

I think I agree that the gameplay on the Turbografx-16 version of Hit the Ice is a bit better. I remember that once I got a lead in the Genesis version, I could just play keep-away from the CPU and run out the clock. :) Oddly enough I don't remember ever seeing the octopus in the Genesis version, bu...

Re: 2017/3/8: Turbografx-16: Darius Plus (Japan), Hit the Ice

Very pleased to see these, and thanks for reviewing Hit the Ice! Very fair review, and while I'd give it a somewhat higher grade, I agree that the game goes on far too long -- it should've had passwords, for one. Does this mean a review of the SNES version is coming too? If so I look forward to seei...

I'm sorry to hear that it did poorly, as I like Dragonslayer a lot! It's very much in the vein of other late-1970s/early-1980s fantasy movies, which was a rich period for the genre (e.g. Excalibur).

Re: 2017/2/5: Jaguar: Barkley: Shut Up and Jam, Rebooteroids

Cool, and great to see Jaguar reviews! Haven't played either of these but Rebooteroids sounds fun. Do you have a "prototype" icon, BTW? It's easy to overlook the sentence where you mention the game wasn't officially released. BTW you're very close to completing the official Jaguar release ...

Re: Best Game Titles?

I think Hit the Ice is a good title: short, direct, to the point, and well-matched to the kind of game it is. BTW speaking of Hit the Ice, I'd like to see the Critic review the SNES and TurboGrafx-16 versions of the game, which are very different from each other and from the Genesis port (which I th...

Re: NES games I need to review?

I'm going to be a slightly dissenting voice here and say that I don't really come to this site looking for yet another review of the games everyone already worships (or hates). We don't really need a Final Fantasy or Dragon Warrior review from someone who doesn't especially like RPGs, or at least th...

Re: 2016/12/13: Philips CD-i: Christmas Crisis

The thing I always say about the CD-i is that it's basically like playing CD-ROM games in the early 1990s on a Mac Performa. (It even has many of the same titles: Myst, Kingdom I & II, etc.) If that evokes fond memories, it's a good shot you'll like the CD-i. If you're expecting the equivalent o...

Re: Favorite "Guilty Pleasure" Video Game

ET is bad in the respect it was a commercial failure and disappointed kids of tbe day who expected a very different game. I must say, this has always mystified me because I was a kid at the time and enjoyed E.T. quite a bit! I had zero problem making sense of it. But then, I've always been more int...
