Re: Sega SG-1000

The limitation is that there isn't a way to insert original SG-1000 cartridges into the SMS, which is where the SMS Everdrive cartridge comes in. This reprogrammable multicart allows you to run SMS and SG-1000 rom images, bypassing that physical limitation. It's not just a physical limitation, thou...

Re: 2015/8/7: Genesis: Micro Machines, Jungle Book, Izzy's Quest for the Olympic Rings

Thanks for the info (and picture) regarding the J-cart. I never knew about that, but it certainly does back up my review! Looks like I need to pick up MM2 now. Pete Sampras Tennis and Sampras Tennis '96 are J-carts too. Do a Codemasters triple! BTW Sampras Tennis '96 is a PAL import but w...

Re: Game Review Recommendations?

^Some solid recommendations from Wallyworld. Reviewing Genesis shmups is always worthwhile, and I'd love to see Atomic Robo-Kid get a proper review (though I suspect you won't like it). Like several others, what I'd most like to see is for you to finish off some of the near-complete sections, especi...

Re: Anyone played "Kings Bounty" on Genesis?

I played through this one a year or two ago, and enjoyed it. I think it's well worth picking up. Don't expect a conventional RPG or SRPG experience -- it's definitely got a flavor all its own, but if you can tune into its wavelength it offers a good time. I wish the passwords recorded more than they...

Re: Return of the Typo Thread!

In the Super Runabout review (Dreamcast), you write "Super Runabout encourages wonton destruction". Unless you're talking about annihilating Chinese dumplings ( ), I think you mean wanton -- though you do mention food and Chinatown immediately thereafter: maybe you were hungry at...

Re: 2015/7/16: 3DO: Plumbers Don't Wear Ties

There are a couple amusing quips from the narrator (or whatever you want to call the voiceover on the decision screens) that aren't in the YouTube version of PDWT, because they're only triggered after you choose an option, fail, and then choose a different one. But all the important stuff is there.

Re: 2015/7/16: 3DO: Plumbers Don't Wear Ties

The thing about PDWT is that though, yes, it's an objectively terrible game (really a visual novel), my wife and I got a ton of amusement from playing it. And hey, it's pretty forgiving -- you never have to restart from scratch, IIRC, so you can pretty much play the whole thing in one sitting. I hav...

^Might help to specify the game you mean (Section Z for NES). BTW I loved that game -- I don't understand why it gets panned.

Re: Factual error thread

If omissions count as errors, then the Destination Earthstar review has a massive error: it doesn't mention anything at all about the shmup half of the game! A person reading that review would think it's just another clone of Star Voyager, Star Raiders, etc. But the whole gimmick of Destination Eart...

Re: 3DO VR Stalker 'improved version'?

That's a great question. I've read the same thing and wondered that myself. I didn't expect to like VR Stalker, but a couple years ago I played through 4-5 levels and actually enjoyed it quite a bit. The method of earning new planes is confusing, though -- I never did quite understand how it worked,...
