Re: 2015/7/11: Saturn: Robo Pit, Courier Crisis

Robo Pit looks a bit like Joy Mech Fight, a Japanese Famicom game that also involves goofy looking robots. That reminds me, would you ever consider reviewing Famicom games? They can be played on the NES through a converter that can be found inside some early NES cartridges, most commonly Gyromite.

Factual error thread

With all the reviews the Critic has written over the years, it's only natural that not all of them are 100% accurate regarding the games they cover. The idea is to make this a sister thread to the typo thread, where we point out things the Critic writes about certain games that are factually incorre...

Re: 2015/6/30: Genesis: Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, Side Pocket, Radical Rex

The final level of Castle of Illusion bizarrely bears a close resemblance to Castlevania of all things. There's also a remake of the game for PS3 and Xbox 360. It's downloadable, but I think it would nevertheless be worth a look.

Splosion Man re-review?

This is one of the most baffling reviews I've seen on the site. It doesn't seem as though the Critic played this particular game for very long. He mentions that the explosion mechanic is a glorified jump, which it is, but he also implies there's nothing else it's used for, which is simply untrue: it...

Re: Game Review Recommendations?

Battle Kid: The Fortress of Peril for NES. It's a homebrew platformer made in 2010 and it's brutally difficult. It's essentially a cross between Mega Man and Metroid, but the exploration isn't quite as confusing and the main focus are the enemies and obstacles, all of which kill you in one hit. If y...

Blinking Light Win

Has anyone else heard of this? It's a device that replaces the frequently faulty "toaster" mechanism that the NES uses to load cartridges with a much more reliable set of connectors that don't require pressing down on the cartridge. I got mine recently from backing it on Kickstarter. Even ...

Re: 2015/6/17: Xbox 360: Michael Phelps: Push The Limit, Expendables 2

The last sentence for the Expendables 2 review is one I heavily disagree with. There is absolutely just as much shovelware on the retail gaming market as there is in the digital market. There aren't a lot of downloadable game reviews on the site (and for some reason all of them are for Xbox 360, eve...

Re: How would a Splatoon review play out?

I think an F- would be way too harsh considering how creative the singleplayer levels are while they last. Also, looking at the Call of Duty reviews, he actually DOES mention the online multiplayer, but he really downplays it in favor of talking about the singleplayer campaign, which a lot of people...

How would a Splatoon review play out?

So I, like many people, am enjoying Splatoon. Considering the success it's had (relative to the Wii U's sales, anyway), it's almost inevitable that it'll get a review on this site. But considering the stance the VGC has on DLC and online modes, Splatoon seems like it would be a tough game to review....

Re: Modern or classic gaming

I play a ton of classic games, but I play fairly modern games about an equal amount of the time. It really bugs me when people say "I miss the days when you had to blow into the cartridge to make it work." Firstly, doing that actually damages the cartridge pins over time, and secondly, tho...
