Re: Games everyone loves, but you don't see them as great.

Link to the Past. World design? Second to none. You'll want to explore every inch. Soundtrack? Iconic. Graphics? Considering all they packed into a tiny cart? No complaints at all about the world of the marshmallow people. Gameplay wise, this is the height of the 16 bit era. Character wise, I've see...

Re: Things in Video Games you Hate?

Message to developers in the 2000's: Stop blocking paths with anything we can step on. Like a single sandbag. Or a field of grass. Also, a very important note to the developers of Golden Sun: don't build our house under a boulder smaller than it is, and then try to claim there's a prophecy about tha...

It's nothing like Pong, or any form of Tennis, for that matter. But you can see how it'd still be fun, back in the day. I'd love to play a version with a live grenade, instead of a ball. And rules to prevent either player from running out the clock.

Re: Things in Video Games you Hate?

Oh! Someone finally hates something I like! I love when characters die for storyline reasons. I'll listen to random conversations, good or bad, if they're entertaining enough. I want to get lost in a holodeck, and at this point in time, whenever anyone dies in gameplay, there's usually no weight to ...

Re: Things in Video Games you Hate?

The belief that being a good programmer/good game designer makes you good at everything else too. It was easy to ignore sloppy writing when a programmer added a paragraph or two in the instruction manual, but when half of Shenmue was Ryo repeating back what he'd just heard to the worst actors in the...

Re: Does a game reviewers age matter to you?

Time creates distance. Young retro reviewers don't lack for passion, but they're very hit or miss. "Super Mario World" is the hardest SNES game ever made." "Hahaha, it's a Lynx. Wow, this thing sucks." "Don't make fun of Hard Drivin on the Sega Genesis; I can see why th...

Re: Best Batman movie?

To avoid writing a book, I'll only count those that hit theaters, and were meant to be seen as a self-contained feature length film. Batman '66 - Needs more POW! What happened to the fights? Plus the new Catwoman lacks both the lash of a whip delivery of a Julie Newmar and the feline purr of an Eart...

Re: Pray it aint so - Wisdom Tree NES Plug n Play

When I was a fundie kid, I would have killed to own Spiritual Warfare. It's impossible to translate the Lord of the Rings, for real, appeal in all of this, but just by existing in a pre-internet age, it was automatically a better game than Zelda for the millions of families who couldn't afford it. U...

Re: State of the Site Address 2016

Cheers, Critic, for keeping this going since the 20th century. It's easy to review the best of the best and the worst of the worst. What amazes me is that you can keep your passion going even when dealing with the at least decent to completely wasted potential mediocre. That's a superpower. If you c...

Re: Looks like its time for Telltale/Select Indie/Japanese Dev games to give up on PS3/Xbox 360/3DS/PS Vita now!

ReviewTechUSA? C'mon, he's the Fox News of gaming. His fantasies of being held down by the less powerful aren't limited to videogame consoles, that's for certain. And limitations have always been good for forcing more creativity out of the AAA industry - there wouldn't be Space Invaders, Pac-Man, Su...
