Re: 2017/4/27: Lynx: Baseball Heroes, Ninja Gaiden III

Only on the Lynx could a mutilated NES port - the worst of the trilogy - stand head and shoulders above the competition. And then the baseball review...just ouch. No wonder why the Gameboy won. It may have a ridiculous amount of shovelware, but the best of portable gaming was all happening far away ...

Re: Lynx Vs. Game Gear

Looking over this thread so far, I think the Game Gear is suffering from the fact that it's an enhanced Master System attempting to keep up with the Genesis, and it's place in the ecosystem was completely replaced by the Nomad. But back in the day? C'mon, Pitfighter vs. MK2, Fatal Fury Special, Samu...

Re: "Closing" games

Actually, I love the fact that I can shut off the system and still return to a game in progress later. It means I get to have a life, and still enjoy in-depth gameplay.

Plus, I don't know how we ever managed with handhelds before.

Re: 2017/4/18: Playstation 4: Pac-Man Championship Edition 2

This was my favorite game for a long time; the difficulty is entirely your own creation, and it's a thrill to suddenly turn the threat of a ghost train into a candy necklace. I think you're selling the strategy and control a bit short - but I had the PC version, so I have no idea whether the PS4 ver...

Re: You know you're a retro gamer when

The correct answer is 6 buttons. All on the face. Nothing has been right in the world since Sega stopped making controllers for 2d focused consoles.

Re: Best decade for television?

Now, easily. With modern televisions being able to access Netflix and other streaming services, plus the amount of quality cable content, there's literally so much good that you can't hope to watch it all. With that said. Commercials on the channels that still carry them are so thick that you could ...

Re: You know you're a retro gamer when

You've actually played every single good game for your favorite console, no matter what genre they are, and can make a great case for why everyone should at least try the average and bad ones. The bad habits that represents are why you'll never reach the end of your "To play" list. You don...

Re: Perfect Dark (GBC)

One more Sega Portable would have been amazing. With the direction they were headed with their hardware designs, there's a decent chance it might have been a dual 68000 set-up, running at the same resolution as their arcade cabinets - capable of scaling sprites, but not really fast enough for textur...

Re: Perfect Dark (GBC)

The GBC's way past anything a Colecovision could do. Thanks to the overall processing speed, ram, and advances in real time decompression technology, there's really no 8-bit comparison, except that it's limited to 40 sprites on screen, same as the original Gameboy. (It can throw 10 on a single scanl...

Re: Looking for Action RPG's.

If you enjoyed Ys III, you've got to give the remake a go. Ys: The Oath in Felghana, adds to the gameplay and charm without ever losing sight of what made it all work in the first place. You might want to also play some of the modern games. Final Fantasy Adventure on the original Gameboy still has 8...
