Re: 2016/4/18: Game Boy Advance: Road Rash Jailbreak, Sega Rally Championship

V-Rally 3 puts Sega Rally Advance to shame. Different strokes for different folks, I'm glad you can enjoy it, but the textures in that engine stretch and warp so badly that it's like the entire world was made out of someone's dirty laundry and LSD. It's also a simulation game with a d-pad - I can a...

Re: 2016/4/18: Game Boy Advance: Road Rash Jailbreak, Sega Rally Championship

This is a welcome surprise. Polygon games on the GBA are difficult to love. There's so many sacrifices to even get a 3D engine running at a playable speed. Giant pixels are the norm, even by Atari 2600 standards, and you chose to review the engine with the largest pixels of them all. Plus sprites ru...

Hitting Revolution X with an F- didn't do any good. It's still an A+. Is the system broken or just hacked?

Re: Why does everyone love Pac Man so much?

Nostalgia is why so many people like Casablana too.

Me, I enjoy Pac-Man because I can always sneak a quick burst of play in, while keeping a free hand to carry things, open doors, etc.

And there's no freemium bullshit to worry about.

Re: Why does everyone love Pac Man so much?

1. The minimalist aesthetics. Effort to provide more detail began as early as the eyes in the 2600 adaptation, and continued all the way through PC freeware. Most of the results were forgettable, if we're being kind. The early technical limitations were artistic tools, not a handicap. 2. The playfie...

Re: Book Review: Sinclair ZX Spectrum

Sometimes, a review just gets it. You completely nail why the Spectrum is as exciting now, as it was then. I'm an American who never even heard of the machine until about a decade ago, but with it's high resolution, minimalist canvas, it was an instant love affair. What's most amazing about the Spec...

Re: Whatever happened to... Crash Bandicoot- A Happy Katana Article From A Familiar Face

Crash was simply well constructed comfort food, for those of us with busy lives. No camera management, no getting lost while exploring the levels. It was almost an NES game, in it's heart. With that said, I'm surprised the critics were as kind as they were. They've almost always confused "more&...

Re: 2015/12/29: Sega Master System: Power Strike (Europe), Pro Wrestling

If PowerStrike pushes the Master System to its limits, Power Strike 2 redefines those limits completely. With a little polish, it wouldn't look out of place as a Genesis launch title. Hope you have a chance to review it. If the gameplay matches the visuals, it may be in the running for the best 8-bi...

Re: What game system's lack of sucess shocked you?

I loved my Game Gear, but since it drank batteries like they were cans of beer at a frathouse party, you were forced to keep it plugged in. Too often, it was like playing a Sega Genesis Megadrive... with bonus sprite flicker, frame skips, and sub-NES sound, inside a soup of blurred pixels. Great to ...

Re: I never realised how great the Final Fantasy series is !

The DS version is more "Use a guidebook difficulty" than the super famicom game. It's "amateur rom hack" difficulty. It's just not the kind of difficulty that was any fun. I won't miss it.
