Grab those old TVs!
Not sure how many of you have a Freecycle group in your area (Yahoo! groups), but I'm currently working with a dude in my area who's giving away a 27" Sony FD Wega Trinitron, model KV-27FS100L. It has all necessary inputs for 'classic' gaming... in other words, everything up to component. Completely FREE, you just have to haul it away. I see people on Freecycle giving away CRT televisions almost weekly, and generally I ignore them but I think is one of the better ones. I've always been a Sony Trinitron fan! Anyone in the market for a gaming TV would do well to sign up for their local Freecycle group, and you'll almost certainly see someone giving one away within 30 days.

The big reason to have an old TV is for light gun shooters. They're actually one of my favorite genres. Nothing beats hooking up the Saturn and playing Area 51, House of the Dead, and Virtua Cop 1 and 2.

I wouldn't take family throw away CRT's. Go out and shop your local thrift stores or watch Craigslist. You can find top of the line CRT's for cheap. If your going through the trouble of moving these things might as well be the best. 36" Sony Trinitron's are my favorite. Need an army to move it though.

Another interesting things about TV's is that all the new HDTV sets have gotten rid of s-video inputs. This is a shame because it was the best output for a lot of retro consoles. I had to hunt down an HDTV with s-video input off craigslist because they don't make them anymore.

I bought a brand new 32 inch Samsung HDTV less than 6 months ago and it had S video inputs.

Just watch the 'free' section of Craigslist. People are always giving their old CRT's away for free after upgrading. I've even seen 56' and 61' DLP tv's go for nothing on there

I got it from HH Greg. A friend of mine recently bought a Coby brand TV from there that also had S-video inputs.
