Which Sega 16 platform would I be best purchasing this game for ?
I've had a quick game on all 3 versions using my Everdrive and a burned CDR and decided it's good enough for me to want an original in my collection I just can't decide which one to go for.
Genesis/Mega Drive: The technically weakest of the bunch but still nice looking and plays well enough and doesn't have the drawbacks of the other two versions.
Sega CD: The sound is much better than the Genesis, but the load times are long even with my x2 speed multi-mega.
32x: I really like the smooth sprite scaling in this version and the sound is also a step above the Genesis version, but I REALLY DISLIKE the big heads - what the hell is that all about ? I find it off putting and it jars me out of the experience.
So out of the 3 which would you pick and why ?

Sounds like you're already set for the Genesis version, aren't you? Probably the best choice!

Well I was going for the 32x version for the crisper presentation plus I'm a sucker for sprite scaling, but I can't seem to get past the big head thing. Maybe I could get used to it ?
Did they add anything to the Sega CD version apart from better sound ? Why didn't they use sprite scaling on this version ?

I know it isn't mentioned and you want a Sega platform but really the SNES is probably the best. Otherwise I'd go with the genesis. I don't have a 32x but the sega cd version has too many load times for a sports game.

The big heads is a feature of the original arcade versions, so you're technically getting the most arcade-faithful port in the 32X version.

A Multi-Mega is the European version of the CDX (Genesis/Sega CD hybrid).

Having spent now a decent amount of time with all three versions, I've picked up the MegaDrive version (mainly as I found it in the wild for £1). But I can attest playability wise it's the same in all 3 versions.
However the Sega CD version should be avoided due to the poor loading system, the game has to load between every quarter! Which bemuses me somewhat as what further possible data would it need ? I put it down to poor programming/sloppy porting.
The 32x is the nicest visually with animated crowds and nice sprite scaling but the gameplay is much the same and the cheapest PAL version I could find was £25 so I'm happy with the MegaDrive for both gameplay and value.
Now I need to brush up on my Basketball knowledge as I tend to keep 'goal tending' whatever that means !

Loading between quarters!? That is ridiculous. You're right - what is it loading?!
Goaltending means touching a shot when the ball is on the way down. The shooting team gets credit for the basket when this happens.
