In some alternate reality / Flashpoint, Nintendo and Sony collaborated and released the Super Nintendo Playstation. In our reality, Nintendo did another "what were they thinking" and not only dropped the partnership with Sony, but in a rather blunt in your face way, and teamed up with Philips. That relationship brought Nintendo nothing they want to remember, while Sony went on to become a console powerhouse.

A prototype of the SNES Playstation has recently been brought back to life.

Ben Heck got a fan made game (there are no other games to try) up and running on it.

I wasn on another forum and asked if this thing would play PS1 games. Seemed like a logical question considering its a "Playstation" and maybe they used the same assets in both consoles. Long story short, I got eaten alive by all the tech snobs calling me dumb in so many words.

Sorry about that, but if it helps, getting pounced on like that has probably happened to many of us.

My guess is that this thing is like the Sega CD, in that its primarily still using SNES architecture with maybe a coprocessor and the optical drive components. Sony would have had to build a new architecture to avoid any Nintendo patents. Sony kinda lucked out as kt was one of the few moments in time when gaming was shifting - in this case to polygons.
