Mario vs Donkey Kong Country

The SNES was the first console I ever owned, and the Donkey Kong Country trilogy were three of the first games I got for it. To this day they're some of my all time favorite games. Believe it or not, yes, I even like them better than Mario games. They've got better graphics, cooler themed levels, and amazing music (especially for the time they were made). What about you guys? Which do you like better, classic Mario or Donkey Kong?

What did you mean by "classic Mario"?

As in, the Mario sidescrollers, not the 3D ones like 64, Sunshine, and Galaxy.

Diddy's Kong Quest is great, but Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World still kick its hairy hiney. I'll take Earthworm Jim and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 over all three, though, short as they are in comparison.

For me, the DKC games are much more interesting than the 2D Mario games. Those games are great, but DKC's level design is more fascinating, with exotic scenery and focus on remembering enemy/obstacle patterns, as well as plenty of cleverly hidden secrets. There was also a greater deal of music and scenery changes, making the games more interesting to me. But that's my two cents.

Of course, the 3D Mario games are better in my eyes.

DKC is a better game no doubt, but that's not to take anything away from those marios. For what it's worth, Mario 3 would be my first choice, then DKC, Mario world, DKC 2.

Oh! But I forgot about Yoshis Island! If that counts, it's #1 for me easy.

Mario and I don't think it's close. Donkey Kong Country is great but the 2d Mario games are among the best games of all time. I probably would only find room for Donkey Kong Country 2 in a list of he top 100 games of all time (if it even made it), whereas that list would have Mario 1, 3 and World.

Hard to top Mario 1,2, & 3. Though I never put much time in to SMW, it does seem like one of the greats. I was never a fan of the DK games, so its Mario for me.
