It has a little guide on replacing the batteries.
Part of the advice is to buy them with the solder tabs, like these, and solder (not tape) them in.

Re: Replacing Cartridge Batteries
A quick question: Is there any way to replace a dead battery in a Sega Genesis cart? Specifically the ones in Electronic Arts/ EA Sports games? I have a few EA sports titles in which the batteries inside have bit the dust, and I'm wondering if it's possible to replace/fix them without damaging the actual cartridge itself.

It is possible, as I've had it done on a couple of my EA Sports carts. I did not do it myself; one of my local game stores offers the service. I think they charged me $4 a game to do it, and did it while I waited. Took about 25 minutes total for two carts.

I'll have to look into this. Thanks, man.
