No one has said Chrono Trigger, so everyone is wrong 8-)

Sonic 3 and Knuckles also had an insane soundtrack, as did Super Mario 64's mix of ethereal, haunting tunes. And yeah, Symphony of the Night has a phenomenal soundtrack.

Also, you can't list classic game music without bringing up the Donkey Kong Country games. You just can't.

I always loved the musical intro to Soul Blade for the PS1. And of course I love Sonic Boom from Sonic CD.

Super Mario Land doesn't get enough credit for its music; I especially like the 2nd world's over world theme, & the shooting levels' theme.
