Billy Mitchell's Scores Removed, Including Donkey Kong

And... that's that, I guess. Disappointing. Not that they were removed, if they weren't legit they should be removed, but it's disappointing that the cheating happened to begin with. :(

Donkey Kong High Score Holder Caught Cheating, Title removed

Postby Crummylion » April 12th, 2018, 8:53 pm

So it seems that Billy Mitchell was caught using an emulator when he got the high score in Donkey Kong and now is banned from anymore high score submissions from Twin Galaxies while Steve Wiebe takes the spot as record holder.

Thoughts?

As someone who uses emulators all the time, I can see why emulation or mods in competition is problematic. Imagine if somebody hacked a game so they'd have seemingly limited lives while able to take multiple hits. That's not fair. Not to mention emulation is a budgeted way to experience something, not the authentic experience.

Huh, I didn't see this thread when I made my post or expect it here. Didn't realized posts can be moved by admin. Better than having multiple threads though.

With all this drama over the years they HAVE to make a King of Kong II movie.

Another King of Kong may be in the works, perhaps as a TV show.

When they said all records, they mean all records. Guinness no longer recognizes Billy as the 1st person to get a perfect Pac-Man game. :(

I haven't seen king of kong in ten years but this makes me feel bad for the runner up that should have had the record. Steve Wiebe? Also Wiebe I believe would have been the first player to reach a million points on DK if this BS didn't occur.

One of the articles says Twin Galaxies now recognizes Wiebe as the 1st person to get over a million points in DK. Bad that it didn't happen back then, but better late than never, right?

The guy was a cheat and go found out. Good.
I would be lucky to score 40 000 on it.
I just remembered I have peanut butter and jelly sandwiches from lunch time. Yummy. Time to eat them and play some games before I pass out from exhaustion.

Am I the only one annoyed that ALL of Billy's records are expunged including those that were witnessed and totally legitimate? I mean, if you want to toss out the controversial scores, that's one thing, but even steroids users in baseball got to keep their records!
