The idea is that the Big Three are expensive, and there should less expensive (and less capable) alternatives. People are ponying up for retro consoles, so could thefe be a niche for an active one?

If Tommy asks for my advice, and I'm sure he will, this is what I would recommend:
Use a similar design as the original Intellivision (complete with wood trim).
Even if the system is designed for emulated downloaded games, allow it to function offline and accept real Intellivision carts (but don't make them so hard to insert!)
Include controllers like the original Intellivision controls, only comfortable! And allow for alternate controllers including those that have joysticks.
I think you really need to strike a balance between the old school and new school, and this design might just do the trick.
If it's just another online box, people couldn't care less.
