NES needs cleaning?

Postby VideoGameCritic » February 3rd, 2009, 11:37 pm

I noticed lately that my NES is having trouble loading games.  I keep having to re-insert the cartridge until it works.

Question: How do I clean my NES and get it back into proper working condition?  Help a brother out!!

I used <a href="http://classicgaming.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Articles.Detail&id=256"> this </a> guide to fix mine. Aside from the occasional blowing into the cartridge, it works fine.

You first want to clean all of your games and then you may have to  replace your 72-Pin connector. You may also may want to disable your Nintendo Entertainment lock out Chip. The You Tube video shows you how. Let me know how it goes.

9 times out of 10 replacing your 72-Pin connector will solve your load issues. It worked for me when I had trouble with my system.

I replaced my connector.  It cost $15 at a local import store.  My NES doesn't work quite perfectly, but before it was taking 10-15 minutes to get a game to load, and then half the time it would blink off 20 or 30 minutes into my game.

Did you try to disable the lockout chip?

Hey zzz,
Thanks for this link!  I followed the instructions, and my NES is working a lot better.  It's still a bit temperamental (the carts have to be totally clean) but I think this did the trick.
