Jag Recommendations

Postby nesfan1 » February 14th, 2009, 10:10 pm

I just got a Jaguar on Friday with Zool 2. I know that system had about 3 good games that I can actually think of. Can anyone tell me some of the better ones that you would recommend. I'm going to get:
-Alien vs Predator
-Brutal Sports Football
-Power Drive Rally
-Atari Karts
-Pitfall: The Mayan Adventure (I know this game was trashed by everyone who ever reviewed it, but so was the one for the wii and I enjoyed that one.)
-Pinball Fantasies
-Ruiner Pinball
-Rayman
Are there any good games that I'm missing?

Tempest 2000 (of course!), Iron Soldier, Super Burnout, Val d'Isere Skiing, DOOM, CyberMorph, Wolfenstein 3D, and Missile Command 3D are all common, affordable games that I would recommend.

If you can afford to buy them, some of the Telegames and Songbird releases are good: SkyHammer, Protector, Breakout 2000, etc.

And of course there is BattleSphere, but that will run you $300-plus for a copy.

The only one I've played is Tempest 2k and its utterly fantastic.

Interested in this article myself as I'm planning to pick up a Jaguar and do a set of features sometime soon.

Super Burnout
Cannon Fodder
Wolfenstein 3D
Doom [Best Doom Port]
Zoop
Battlemorph
Defender 2000
Tempest 2000
Missile Command
SkyHammer
Iron Soldiers 1 and 2
Ultra Vortek

Any homebrew game you can find.Jaguar has had a better afterlife than probably any other system [except possibly Dreamcast]

most of the key ones have been mentioned. I only own ten games though, so I can't have a completely full opinion. But some must-haves IMO are:

Wolfenstein 3D
Tempest 2000
Flip-Out! (I honestly thought it was a fairly decent puzzler)
Iron Soldier (I haven't played 2, due to the lack of a Jaguar CD for now)
Cybermorph (ditto with Battlemorph)

But also keep in mind, I only have ten games, I'm missing a great portion of the library.

There's also a cartridge version of Iron Soldier 2. Of course it'll be expensive, though.

Oh is there? I could've sworn it was a JagCD exclusive.

I didn't know there was a cartridge version of Iron Soldier 2. I guess it would be more expensive to get the cd attachment and the game than the cartridge version.

Yes, it's true.  The IS2 cartridge release is essentially the same game as the CD release but without the FMVs.  It was released in much fewer numbers and tends to sell for a lot more money on Ebay or whatever.
