Intellivision Tron Maze A-Tron

I just wanted to ask if anyone know how to beat this game? I have had this game since 1981 and I still do not get how to play it. I know you have a shield and that you can recharge it, but that is it. Any hints? Can you beat this game, or do you collect points?

If you pay me about 1 million bucks I can figure it out for you. I love the Intellivision, but that is one hell of a strange, boring game.

I couldn't understand this game either. I heard that the instruction manual explains how to play it.
