Will SNES power cord work with NES

Postby Josh » April 12th, 2010, 11:40 am

I found an old SNES power cable and was wondering if it would work with a NES. I have an old NES back at my dad's house that lacks just about everything.

Yeah, I know the NES transformer works with the
SNES. I guess it should work the other way around, but I never tried, though...

Anyone actually got a SNES and a NES?

Try it out and tell me.

Also, is the pin connector the main culprit with a malfunctioning NES? I am going to tear into mine the next time I make the long trip back to my dad's house.

I used to be pretty hard on it - ya know, get mad and throw the controller at it; kick it a few times.

Man, come to think of it, I don't know if I should even try to revive it. Maybe I shoul just leave it in peace.

Well, I'd like to help, but I don't want to fry
a system using the wrong transformer... Try it out,
and tell us if it works, but, that may be risky...
If I were you, I'd settle for the right transformer.

No, I just wondered if it would fit.

They have close to the same specifications but I don't think they will work

Interchangeably.

Also, can you hook up a NES to a hd tv with AV cables? Does it make any difference in picture quality?

I hooked it up using the composite cables and it looked pretty crappy.

I can confirm a SNES transformer will fit into a NES.
I checked with Euro systems, I'm not exactly sure if the
same is true for US systems. And while I can confirm a
NES transfo works with a SNES, I don't know how well
such a combination would hold in the long run.
I really can't complain with my Sony Hdtv, it really does justice
to my old systems, usually hooked by RGB/SCART video cable.
In fact, I bought this TV after reading test evaluations which detailed
how well old consoles/VCR, basically any kind of machine using old resolutions,
would look. The reference, on top of my head, KDL 32 W, something like that...
I highly recommend this set!!

I just tried it, and with my systems the SNES plug is quite a bit bigger than the one on the NES. I think my NES power supply is just a generic one from Radio Shack, though, like someone else pointed out earlier.
