I registered with this site just to say my favorites:

*1*.  Mega Man 2 (by a long shot my favorite game ever-it is nearly flawless in every way).  It got an "A-" on this site-I say wtf! [tongue]

2.  Pac-Man (arcade)
3.  Legend of Zelda Link to the past
4.  Karate Champ (arcade), have to put this in I played it sooo much in the arcades
5.  Street Fighter 2 champion edition
6.  Mega Man X
7.  Sim City 3000 or 4 (I like this genre in general)
8.  Mike Tyson's Punchout
9.  Ice Hockey (Atari 2600), just a brilliant game for head to head.
10.  Golden Axe

Well hold on a second-where am I gonna stick final Fantasy 7?  rofl-there's probably countless others that fight for those top 10 spots.
Super tennis is another one I like

1. Demon's Souls
2. Civilization II Multiplayer Gold Edition
3. Dark Souls
4. Final Fantasy VII
5. Rez

6. Ico
7. Silent Hill 2
8. Gone Home
9. Shadow of the Colossus
10. Super Mario 64

I put a space between 5 and 6 because really only the first 5 are definite. I was very torn, nevertheless, in deciding upon Final Fantasy VII. I also loved FF1, FF4, and FF10. Really I like them all to varying degrees--except 2, which is hateful, and 3, which is sadistically hard. Demon's Souls will forever and always be my #1 [smile].

Interesting to look back at this thread and see my list of favorite games from 2010.  I've compiled a new list...so let's see how they stack up.

1.   Star Control II (3DO)
2.   The legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past (SNES)
3.   Castlevania: Symphony of the Night (PS1)
4.   Mortal Kombat II (Multi)
5.   Super Metroid (SNES)
6.   Final Fantasy Tactics (PS1)
7.   Toejam and Earl (GEN)
8.   Fable  (XBOX)
9.   Zombies Ate My Neighbors (Multi)
10.  Earthworm Jim (Multi)

Reasons for some of the changes.

Star Control II hopped up to my top spot simple because there is nothing else like it. It's massive, highly imaginative and just amazing to play through.

A Link to the Past moved up because it's just so timeless.  I dropped Symphony of the night, because it's just a little less accessible.  SotN is still amazing, but Link on the SNES is just more enjoyable.

Mortal Kombat II jumped way up...this is likely because I now own a MKII arcade machine.  I love this game.  Super Mario Bros 2 fell out due to the fact that I just don't feel compelled to play it as much anymore.  It's still my favorite Mario game though.

Super Metroid dropped down just because other games rose to the top.  It's such a hauntingly beautiful game, but it's not something I'm dying to play all the time.

Tecmo Super Bowl dropped out completely.  It probably didn't belong in the top ten in the first place.  More of Top 30 game probably.

Final Fantasy Tactics - I've sunk so much time into this game and never fails to wow me.  The job system is endlessly replayable and I love molding my characters.

Toejam and Earl is so wacky and out there.  I love game designs that are really unique and this is one of them.  Endless replayable and great with two people.  One of the best on the Genesis.

Mike Tyson's Punchout got left off, but it's prob Top 15 material.  It's a great game to pop in and just waste an hour.  Still probably the most recognizable boxing game ever created...and still my favorite.

Fable bumped off Contra...This is the newest game on the list, but I like it because it's just such a solid design.  Easy to play, lots to discover and feels different depending on how you choose to play.  I go back and play this game once every year or two.  I never tire of it.

Zombies Ate My Neighbors - I'm a sucker for B grade horror films and this game is one big wet sloppy kiss to the entire genre.  Great gameplay, unique theme and hysterical level names and great humor everywhere.  Easily Top ten material.

Earthworm Jim - Yeah a theme of very unique games is running through this list.  EWJ has got humor and uniqueness to spare.  Luckily the sidescrolling action is matches up with the outlandish premise.  I miss game like this.  They didn't take themselves so seriously and were just a hoot to play.

Metal Gear Solid dropped out because I tend to favor lighter games that I can dive right into.  This is still top 20 material.

Nice to see Silent Hill 2 and Gone Home on your list. Gone Home nearly made it on mine, although when it gets released on consoles I will definitely be looking to play it again.
