Spiderman for O2!

At last there is a super-hero game for the Odyssey2! Critic,
check out thelogbook.com/odyssey/2006/s.htm for the scoop (and how you can order) what is possibly a BETTER version of the classic web-slinging 2600 cart! (LOVE those between-screen shots of a huge Spiderman swinging!)... check this one out! And if you can get them, TUTANKHAM and FROGGER are great on this system, too! - it's not that the O2 is a terrible system, it just didn't get the support it deserved in North America!

I don't have spider-man, but Frogger is fun (divided into two screens but still very playable) and Tutankham absolutely ROCKS (no flicker like the 2600; no scrolling but it isn't really needed).  But note that the system may have been undersupported overseas too; the only one of those three games which was released is Frogger.  Also, there's a great unreleased prototype called Shark Hunter out there...  You spear sharks, and also have to dive into the shark-infested waters to rebuild a net which keeps more sharks from coming back out....  Here's the link to order it or get the ROM... http://www.dieterkoenig.at/ccc/

Yeah, another O2 fan! Isn't it strange, though, how "back in the day" the Intellivision was well-supported everywhere, yet today TWICE as many homebrews and protos are showing up for the O2! Amok, KTAA, Lunar Lander, Mr. Roboto and more to come. I'm glad the little "keyboard is the key!" system is finally getting it's due! (and I still don't have one, though I've picked up some MIB games for it for when I DO find one!)

The O2 had lower res and couldn't display as many sprites.  But with it's ability to display large, flicker free graphics moving quickly all over the screen, I think many O2 games look better than 2600 games (with ugly flicker and screwy little sprites) and even intellivision games (with the choppy, slow movement).  Someone should make Robotron for the O2....

Well, Robotron may be too frantic for the O2. Killer bees is
a similiar concept but very watered down...not nearly as many moving objects, explosions, humans, shots, etc....
JOUST is deffinietely a good O2 idea! It only has one non-scrolling screen and few objects. I bet it would be much better then the 2600 version. Amidar, Make Trax, and most of
all a GOOD space invaders are also thoughts I had (Demon Attack is good but more like Phoenix, while the old Alien Invaders+! is VERY uninspired). Too many O2 games were programmed quickly by the same person. Magnavox (as with Atari in the 70's) was stressing quantity over quality. Limited resolution does handicap it a bit, but the fact Atari snapped up so many arcade liscenses and refused to let anything NEAR the same on competing consoles really sunk the O2. Too bad the O3 never made it here with IT'S Robotron-like FLASHPOINT!

Actually I kind of like Alien Invaders +; I think the critic was way too harsh on it.  The idea of hiding extra men under your shields is great, as is the descending mothership/monster.  I killed many hours first trying to beat the aliens at all, then trying to get 10 wins before they did, and finally beating them 10-0.  If only there were even more difficult skill levels...

Alittle off-topic, but 2600 Spider-Man has to be the greatest example of a game that I loved as a child, but dislike now as an adult 2600 collector.

It's not that it's a bad game, but it's just not Spiderman. It doesn't make sense, Spiderman can stick to buildings with his bare hands, but not in this game. I also don't like the fact there's no actual fighting. A superhero game with zero-fighting is terribly out-of-place in post-1980's hindsight.

What can I say, it's a nice game, but it screws with my logic&common sense so much, it annoys the crap out of me to play it.

And I know this is weird, but shortly after 9/11, it DISTURBED me to play this game. I got over it, but this game seemed extremely creepy for a month or so after 9/11.

AlienInvaders+ must be the most "love it or hate it" extreme
game on the system. I got a used O2 in '85 with the 3-game
pack-in, Invaders from hyperspace and this.(I had to quickly return it because the keyboard was broken ): ). While the theme and dancing moster-ship at top were interesting, the "pointless" scoring (so you finally beat it 10-0, then what? It should have given you a point per robot, how hard would that have been!?) and fact that the robots never descend was off-puting.

As for Spiderman, I think it is still a great game. Few games have the superhereo using ALL of his powers-in Spiderman he doesn't have Spider-sense or any strength EITHER, I mean, he falls two stories and SPLAT!...you have to cripple him somehow or there would be no danger. I still think the 2600 version of Spiderman is one of the BEST spiderman games ever.

Not sure what to say about te 9/11 thing..I guess ANYthing with a "skyscraper" in it was a bad memory for awhile....I do remember Marvel Comics actually using the storyline of that disaster in their Spiderman comics.

Well, if Spiderman falls from a great distance, he IS gonna go splat. Being invincible to injury&death is NOT one of Spiderman's powers.

Sometimes when something happens in history, movies, video games, music, art, etc, can take on whole new intended meanings.

If you look at Micheal Jackson's Moonwalker game for example...........after we found out Micheal is a  touchie-feelie sorta guy, it really seems like the children are hiding from a horny Micheal, rather then being hostages he's rescueing.

For 2600 Spiderman after 9/11.........

Green Goblin is a terrorist
the people in the windows are innocent terrorist victims, not bad guys
just the general concept of a skyscraper ready to blow up

The game just took on a whole new context for me after 9/11.
