Best racing games?

I've been away for a while (sorry 'bout that). And was surprised to read one of the Critics most recent reviews about NFS: The Run, as most critics panned the game with C's and 6/10's. It's made me more open to the game... but then I also don't have many racing games in general. I realized I need to rectify that.

I'm trying to fill in some gaps in my 360 collection and I seem to be severely deficient in racing games. Like the Critic, I'm more of arcade racing guy, but I'm not completely opposed to sims (I own Forza 3 and plan on buying Gran Turismo 5 XL Edition on PS3 soon). So I need some help.

What are the best (or your personal favorite) racing games on the 360 or PS3?

I'm also opened to your favorites on earlier consoles (PS2, Gamecube, SNES, PSX, Genesis, NES, Wii, Master System, etc.).

I would recommend checking out Full Auto on the 360.

There are tons of great racing games on 360. Some of my favorites are NFS: Most Wanted, NFS: Hot Pursuit, Forza 3, Blur, and DiRT. I also have a love/hate relationship with Midnight Club: LA. The game can be great, but requires a lot of patience as it will throw some serious BS at you sometimes.

Does this include Saturn or Dreamcast? Because if so,you gotta get the Sega Rally games and Daytona USA

Forgot to mention...my favorite of all time is NFS: Hot Pursuit 2 on the PS2. The GameCube and Xbox versions are NOT the same and are much worse, but this game was an absolute masterpiece on the Playstation. I still go back and play it on a regular basis.

Multi - Pure, Sega Rally Revo, Need For Speed: Carbon, Dirt

Pure for the 360. I got it for Christmas a few years back, and it's one of my favorite games in my 360 library. Jaw dropping graphics, huge courses, massive air, satisfying tricks, and some of the best atv controls ever. My favorite off-road racing game.
