"Morning After" impressions of the Wii U

Both games had updates as soon as I played them, and they were at least 15 minutes each, but I was able to play the game while the update was downloading, which completely erases any updating issues as far as I am concerned.  If I had to sit there and wait it out, it would be a whole different story.  This is worlds better than my PS3 updates where I am all excited to play the game and end up have to stare at a load screen for 15 minutes.  I don't think i have had any actual system updates yet.  At least not that it has made me aware of...

15 minutes? Good Lord..

I've read about this Wii U freezing issue on other websites and appears to be a very real issue

l'd also like to mention that I have had absolutetly no problem finding Wii U's in stores. I went to Toys R Us on Wednesday and they had 2 of them in stock, and then last night when I went to Best Buy for Black Friday, they had a TON of them in stock and NOBODY was buying it. Almost everybody I saw had Xbox 360 games in their hands, myself included. I also bought the PS Move LBP2 Bundle (which has everything) for $40, and the PS Move Sharpshooter for $10. So with that being said, the Wii U may not be the hottest selling item this Christmas like so many anticipated. $300 is a lot of money, man! Especially when you can pick up fully loaded 360's and PS3's for $200. I think it's going to very well and build steam as more original titles get pumped out. But the other two systems are still very much alive and kicking.

My last reply to something like this this generation.  I am no longer concerned with sales of anything, how any console or handheld  does compared to any other, or in having any threads about console impressions turning into business talk from Fortune magazine.

A plea: Can we start this generation with a fresh slate and in topics like "Wii impressions" can we not discuss antecdotal. statistical, etc. sales of other consoles?  Can we basically leave the old "talking about one console means talking about how the others totally  ________ mentality in last generation?  I promise, I'll even personally stop comparing consoles to the PC.   Come on, we're resetting here.  Can we please do this?  For like a whole generation?  Perhaps we'll all like it better that way.

I mean, this is a topic about Wii U impressions.  Like impresssions about playing the Wii U. How is it necessary or desireable to talk about how many 360s sold at a local store?  It's like being in a thread about your impressions test driving a new Ford and having someone say "my local Toyota dealership does great sales."  Well good.  Now let's get back to discussing test driving a vehicle from someone else entirely.

I'm getting my system in a week, since it's not out in Europe yet. A few questions for you, Paul, or anyone with some experience with this system:

1/ How do Wii games look when played through Wii U? Any significant upscale?
2/ Any difficulty in transferring data from Wii to Wii U? Is it a lengthy process?
3/ What's your take on Wii U games?

Thanks!

Big whoop.  I am not being forced to wait until the download is finished.  It could take a day and a half for all I care.  And that's pretty standard for firing up alot of games for the first time on the PS3, from my experience.  Heck, 15 minutes would have been a breath of fresh air on a couple PS3 games I have bought in the past.  Keep it in perspective.

As for Oltobaz's questions:  1-  Wii games look a tad better, but nothing to go crazy about.  I am not of the opinion that they were exactly unbearable in the first place.  At least they were progressive scan.

2.  No difficulty on my end.  The only lengthy part of the process would be the downloading of the apps to both consoles, depending on the circumstances of the person.  The whole process was a breeze for me, but that doesn't mean it will be for everyone depending on their experience with consoles, SD cards, etc...

3.  As far as games, I have three.  NSMB U, which is every bit as good as its predecessor, but no better.  The tablet controller abilities are of little to no benefit to the gameplay in my opinion. Nintendoland, which was only OK at first, until I had some friends come over and play, at which point a few of the games turned out to be a freaking BLAST, which really boosted my opinion of the game overall, because alot of the games are best suited for multiplayer.  And I recently downloaded Trine 2, which is a BEAUTIFUL game, and really shows what the system can do graphically.  This game has the most detailed and beautiful surroundings and backgrounds that I have ever seen in a video game, bar none.  And so far it is a heck of a lot of fun.  I'm going to buy Batman tonight and we'll see how that goes.

Thanks, this is exciting. Good to hear Wii games get some sort of upscale, they certainly didn't look bad in my opinion either, but that's a plus anyway. Will probably get the same games you did, along with Zombi U. Again, thanks for your input!

I am really enjoying this system thus far. Super Mario looks stunning and plays great as most of them do. I have not had any issue's with the video player and actually the nextflx is pretty cool in that you can be watching it on the tv and switch to the tablet controller if you need to and looks awesome. This same feature does not work for YouTube, you can only watch on the tv, it does give you the description of the video on the tablet. The one thing I did not like was you could not hard wire your Ethernet cable you can only connect wireless which I always like to hard wire my consoles for better online play.
Overall in this short time I am enjoying this system with hope of more games to coming out soon.

PLEASE put Trine 2 on your list.  Make it your first downloaded game.  It's well worth it.

Hey Paul, thanks for the suggestion. I have never heard of that game before you mentioned it in this thread. What would you compare this game to? It is a platformer?
How much did it cost.

I just might. It looks awesome. From what I understand, it's also a PSN/XBOX LIVE release, yet Wii U is getting a "director's cut version".
