The "Virtual Reality Medical Center" http://www.vrphobia.com/therapy.htm is a California based phobia and anxiety treatment center using virtual reality along with breathing and other techniques. Video games can be repeatable, controllable, and the 'escape button' is as easy as removing the helmet. The one about spiders had an entry on a popular blog, but they also include issues with closed spaces, heights, needles and blood, public speaking, driving, flying, etc.
Its interesting. If anyone has a fear of descending aliens or ninjas, I could point to a few video games to help.
