A big disadvantage of digital only games!

Postby Sonicx9 » June 13th, 2016, 7:46 pm

The hit time exclusive Runbow is getting a GOTY retail disc this release under the name Runbow Deluxe coming this fall. It comes with a Soundtrack CD and all DLC/Patches on disc, making the price of the digital eShop version a rip of with a $14.99 + $12.99= $27.98 and the retail disc is probability going to be either $20 to $30 dollars range either cheaper or slightly more expensive, making it no good reason to get popular download only games at launch, when stuff like this happens.

Also the game is getting a New 3DS only port this summer along with a retail release under the name Runbow Pocket Deluxe with the same situation as the retail Wii U version.

Off topic, but man is the Wii U becoming useless because first it more populare semi-exclusive games like Super Smash Bros. 2014, Hyrule Warriors, NES Remix 1 and 2, and Runbow all get 3DS/New 3DS ports killing the reason to own a Wii U for games like that!

Thoughts on this news?

Well, as to the second part of your post, the new 3ds version of hyrule warriors is, from what I read, a lousy way to play the game, with a poor framerate. And the 3ds version of smash brothers is, from personal experience, a lousy way to play the game. Smash bros is meant for a tv with friends. The Wii U has its share of issues but I hardly think that having a couple 3ds ports of its games is hurting it in most people's eyes.

You are wrong about both Hyrule Warriors and smash brothers respectively.

Because according to the people of DigitalFoundry at Eurogamer.com, if you play Hyrule Warriors on the New 3DS XL, the port is playable and according to DigitalFoundry verdict, the game runs better frame-rate on the New 3DS XL/New 3DS then it did on the Wii U, its only bad framerate on the pre-New 3DS XL/New 3DS systems, and also the Hyrule Warriors 3DS ports has most of the DLC/Patches included from the original release with more content added into the mix.

As for Smash Bros, if this was true, how come the critic gives the 3DS version a Higher grade then the Wii U version.

Critics review from the Wii U version: http://videogamecritic.com/wiiuoz.htm?e=07204#rev4405

Critics review from the 3DS version: http://videogamecritic.com/3dsmz.htm?e=07204#rev4470

But then again, the critic was reviewing Smash Bros 3DS version on the New Nintendo 3DS XL system, which is the definitive way to play Smash Bros 3DS properly.

Agree/Disagree with what I just said, give me your thoughts?

This type of issue has been happening for years. Lets all hop in our way back machine to the year 2002. That year Morrowind came out for the Xbox and it was so spectacular and popular they released two expansions Bloodmoon and Tribunal for extra money! Now lets fast forward to the year 2003 and what is released? Morrowind GOTY edition of course and it is bundled with all the expansion content giving you an extra 100+ hours of new gameplay that early adopters had to pay extra for.

I must have been thinking of the performance of Hyrule Warriors on the original 3ds. Regardless, Hyrule Warriors probably isn't even in my top 100 for wii u games, so I could care less it's on another console. And the new 3ds has an even lower install base than the Wii U so a game being ported to that hardly seems to matter.

As far as Smash I was speaking of my personal experience there. I just think fighting games are pretty ill-suited to handhelds, as I primarily play them multiplayer and would rather do that on a big screen with people in the same room. I also have a really hard time playing smash with the 3ds controls; I really can only play it with a gamecube controller. But these are just my opinions. I'm sure it's plenty of fun for other people on the 3ds.

I guess for me though, even if all the Wii U games were ported to the 3ds, I'd still want the Wii U because I prefer playing games on a full console. Playing my 3ds for long periods hurts my hands.
