VGC, this is one thing I know that bugs you, so I was wondering what your opinion of this article is. I think it offers a good amount of insight into some of the practices of developers for contemporary console games.

Why don't we just get a megathread (for the uninformed: general thread focused on one subject) because these complaints pop up everywhere...

Enjoyable read. Always interesting to hear from the other side of the coin.
I found the 'seal of quality' for consoles interesting along with the possible variances between US and European checks.

I totally get day one patches, and updates to games in general. I mean, most games have such an expansive universe that you really cant cover every single possible scenario that could cause a problem in a game. We always use cartridges as standards of perfection, however, to this day we exploit glitches in cartridge games as a means of adding enjoyment to the gameplay.

What I do think is garbage are games that are obviously unfinished to the point that its unplayable or even non existent when you put the disc in. Even when you bought the disc, you had to download the entire game of Tony Hawk 5 before you could play it. Arkham Origins was unplayable before the bazillion patches they released due to numerous game breaking glitches. At the least, a game should be fully playable right out of the box. You shouldnt need a complete overhaul of everything to make it work. There are still people out there (believe it or not) that dont have internet, or just use their cell phone as a means for internet, so to require that they download all kinds of stuff to make the $60+ dollar game they just bought playable is a bunch of BS.
