You should check out the Nintendo Switch Boom or Bust thread on the Video Game General forum... It pretty much covers a lot of opinions on the console...

Check out these two active threads:

http://videogamecritic.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=134797&t=15353

You bring a lot of your own opinions into these kinds of decisions.

(I will add that I still recall - but can't find - a thread from November 2012 of someone getting a Wii U, and basically blogging their first day with it. If anyone gets a Switch soon, I hope to read another such thread)

My son is a 17 y/o junior in HS and has been waiting for this day saving his money. He drives so during his lunch period he is going to Game Stop. Talked to Him last night and He was like dad, it's going to be so hard to get through 3 more classes knowing that Switch is sitting in my trunk, lol.

A few of the kid I teach were taking today off as they were in line for it at midnight last night. To be young again. Last thing I ever waited in line for was Episode 1, and that turned out to be a bad choice lol.

If you have a WiiU already, I would stick with that for now. I mean, the only great game on the Switch for the next 9 months is also on the WiiU, so whats the point?

The Switch needs to work out some mad kinks, There are a ton of features that wont even be implemented for several months. I would avoid an early adoption, but thats just me.

Do yourself a favor and watch the reviews of it on YouTube and make your choice from there.

To be fair, it seems like the Switch is getting excellent indie support, especially since several indie devs have praised how easy it is to develop for Switch. I know not everyone cares about indie games, but a lot of people do, myself included. On the downside, the 32GB memory without an SD card is laughably small.

Add to that games like Snipperclips, Arms, Splatoon 2, and Xenoblade 2, and I think 2017 will be fine for Switch.

I doubt that the Switch will ever have anywhere near the western 3rd party support that Sony and Microsoft do, but I think the indie and Japanese support will be great. And really, that, and Nintendo games, is what I want in a console.

I would wait until the console has a good selection of games.
And I wouldn't buy a Nintendo console close to launch anyway - this company has the tendency to screw over their early adopters with massive game droughts, price cuts and delays.
Nintendo has outlined a release plan for 2017 but we'll see - some of these games exist only in trailer/logo form. Breath of the Wild, Pikmin 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles X were all released with huge delays, so I wouldn't be surprised if they postponed Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Fire Emblem Warriors or Super Mario Odyssey.
It's up to you, but if you can survive for eight months without playing the four good games Nintendo will be releasing for the system in the meantime (Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Dx, ARMS and Splatoon 2), just wait until Nov-Dec 2017 and see what happens. The 3DS got an 80 dollar price cut just eight months after release...

This seems to be the common argument, but am I in a minority of gamers that has no interest in indie games on a console? Not once have I ever searched the Wii store, WiiU store, or PS3 store in search of indie games. Heck, I dont even have a steam account, which if I wanted indie games that would be the first place I would go.

I hear people say ". . .but 40 indie games are going to be released for the switch for this year." Yeah, so? Are people really buying the switch for that?

Just seems weird to me.

You know it's the little things Nintendo slips on that makes me shake my head.

What manufacturer still produces consumer electronics with vulnerable paint? Most of what I've seen is color dye molded into the plastic or anodized/electrolyzed aluminum, yet Nintendo doesn't do this in the year 2017.

It's the year 2017 and the year USB Type-C is being adopted rapidly, but Nintendo doesn't allow even wired backup or transfer of save data let alone using the SD card OUT OF THE BOX.

GG Nintendo when most disposable smartphones are constructed and designed better than your latest console.
