Bases Loaded (NES)

Postby Herschie1 » February 18th, 2015, 5:26 pm

Hell yeah! Remember when MLB: The Show boasted about how you can take your game between the PS3/PS4 and the Vita? Well, guess what? Thanks to Virtual Console and the password system, I can transfer my Bases Loaded season between the Wii U and 3DS. Awesome!

Oh, but we're talking about the NES game, right? THE baseball game to have when I was in the first grade. Yep, that one. Oh, how this game is a joy to play! From the first time that I played it until now, I've enjoyed every minute of it. From the gameplay to the graphics, this game has baseball down right.

Graphically, the game looks like your pleasant peaceful sunny day in the middle of summer. Each team has their different uniforms, and you can even see the numbers on the back of the pitchers! Back in 1988, that was a big deal. The scoreboard is shown nicely, and really gives a complete picture of the game, as well as the lineups for each of the teams.

The sound is fantastic too. My friends and I all wanted that "talking baseball" game when we first heard of this. All the talking really consists of is the umpire calling balls, strikes, and outs. Oh, and "play ball". There's also an easter egg where if you strike out with the bases loaded, before the umpire says "yer out", you hear "you bum!". Happened to me for the first time last night.

The music is also quite memorable. Often I'll put it on the background while I play The Show. Because, you know, having a life is overrated. Also cool is how the music changes when runners are in scoring position. I call this the "oh, crap" music, because usually it's the other team's runners on base.

Oh, this was an awesome game. And it has stood the test of time. Whether my friends and I were having a glass of applejuice back then or a bottle of beer playing this game now, we enjoy it just as much.

Bases Loaded (NES)

I don't put a whole lot stock into music in video games, but even I appreciated the awesome tunes in Bases Loaded. For a very short time Bases Loaded was the best baseball on the NES, but once Baseball Stars came out in 1989 it remained the best.

Boston was my favorite team, what's was yours?

Can't argue with either game. Both are fun and easy to jump right in and play.
