Contra III (SNES)

Damn this game is hard as [explicit]! My son dropped by (hes finally 18, so he can stop over when he wants), so we're playing this awesome game. But we need help. On the the 4th stage. We keep jumping around like [explicitives], and we fall off those damn missles, any advice?

Yup, feels like yesterday mozart. I still can't stay on those missles, maybe I should buckle down and buy the SNES game genie, I only have the Genesis one.

I used to be pretty darn salty at Contra III.  I used to start on easy and work my way through hard only pausing to take a break between finishing each difficulty setting.

Now, I'd probably suck monkey balls.

As obvious as this sounds, I think the key was to try to stay up top as it gives you just a bit more time to find another missile.  Also, pair the difficulty settings down if you're having trouble.

Ok, thanks Actraiser. I had it on normal with 3 lives. Next time we play I'll crank it down on easy and put 7 lives on. We only jumped around to avoid oncoming obstacles, to little help. I must say since I haven't played the game in a while, haven't adapted yet.
And yes, I'm 10 times worse when playing Hard Corps on the Genesis.

I wonder if that's why the VGC dosen't like Hard Corps much, because he's just not very good at it?

Hard Corps is ace, every bit as good as other entries in the series and is one of the MegaDrives premier titles IMO

I love this game.  Act Raiser is right turn the difficulty down to easy, and crank the lives up to 7.   Make no mistake, it will still be ridiculously hard.  However the more you play it, the better you will get.  I generally don't even lose my first life until level 3 anymore.  It used to be that I'd lose several lives on the first level alone.

I've played a rom of the Japanese version.  It is a much better game when you can get hit 9 times instead of 3.   Making the game 3 times as hard for USA was a stupid decision.   Hard Corps is an awesome game, but it is the hardest game I've ever played (outside of some stupid fan made games online.)   I definitely understand the critic's issues with the game.
