I'm the only one who thinks this, but this game is far better than Goldeneye. Listen, I PREFER Goldeneye, but The World is Not Enough is far more polished and enjoyable.

TWINE is more polished in some ways, but it lacks the stylistic flair of Goldeneye. The sound effects don't have as much punch and the music is so far forgettable. The menus and loading screens make the game seem like a low-budget knockoff.

The World is Not Enough addressed these by giving the missions more of a story quality, and multiplayer includes bots which really liven things up.

I can respect that, that's understandable. Thanks for answering my question too.

I'm with Retrology 100% on this one.

I prefer the loose narrative style of Goldeneye because it allows for more gameplay opportunities. TWINE feels more scripted.

With Goldeneye, there is the tank level where I always get lost and it's frustrating. But besides that, I think it's fantastic. To me, multi player is not even a factor at all when I think objectively about Goldeneye. It's all about the single player with extremely well designed levels, as "Retrology" pointed out. There are a few levels that are unbelievably well designed, and they're layered throughout the game. There's a huge variety in mission locations as well. And it feels like a Bond game, and I'm a huge fan of the movies. There are some games where you wonder how the developers pulled it off with such genius, and this is one of them.

This thread inspired me to fire up World is Not enough (TWINE). Impressions of the first 5 levels and multiplayer:

Single Player: I think this is where the game shines. The music is good, the gameplay is solid and the graphics are great. There is also a good amount of voice acting in the cut-scenes. I was pretty impressed with what they got out of the 64.

Annoyingly though, every level had civilians that if you accidentally shot you failed the mission. Goldeneye had this too but it was far easier to distinguish the civilians from the bad guys. The fourth level of TWINE was really frustrating because if you killed the person you're chasing you failed the mission, and that person shoots at you! It's pretty hard to tell the difference between the person shouting at you that you can shoot and the person you can't.

Also, Goldeneye had the advantage of saving to the cart while TWINE requires a memory card. Also the game has a terrible interface that has you press B to confirm overwriting a save. I nearly lost all my progress because I only noticed after three levels that I had been canceling the ave by pressing A.

Another irritant is platforming. TWINE has a jump button which can be a pro or con in a shooter. In this one it's a con. It's really annoying to have to jump to go up a small step and the few areas that require jumping gaps are really hard to navigate.

Some might complain that the level design is more linear than Goldeneye but I see that as a plus as it is harder to get lost. I have less patience for fumbling around in the dark in games as I've gotten older though.

Overall I'd say it's a wash on Single player. TWINE looks better than Goldeneye and I like the linear levels , but Goldeneye is generally less frustrating. Both have great music although Goldeneye feels more iconic.

Multi-player: Here is where Goldeneye runs away with it. The levels in TWINE are all bland and hard to see. If you have played Goldeneye you know the frustration of not being able to see in the Cave level. TWINE seems to have a dark area like that in every level. The bots should add to the fun but they tend to just frustrate me as it seems like they all aim for me and not each other if we're in the same room. The levels also feel more bland than in Goldeneye. There are none like the facility that stand out. I can't imagine friends wanting to play this over Goldeneye.

THIS. Penalty for killing civilians and escort missions are my two least favorite things in FPSes.
